A new interview with Lu by Mike Ragogna (listed as a “music biz vet, entertainment writer”) was posted today on the Huffington Post. It’s a great interview; Mr. Ragogna asks a lot of intelligent questions that has Lu really opening up about performing at the Janis Joplin tribute at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, the Grammy Awards, the creative process she goes through when writing songs, her feelings about the “business” side of the music industry, and her history with various record labels. My favorite part was when Lu relates an anecdote about an A&R guy from RCA asking, “Blonde On Blonde? Is that a band?” in response to Lu’s mentioning that she liked the way the classic Dylan album was produced. 😆

There were a couple of other cool tidbits revealed by the interview. One, she answers a question I had about which Kinks song she recently recorded with Ray Davies – it was “A Long Way From Home.” And, Paste Magazine honored Lu & Elvis Costello’s duet on “Jailhouse Tears” as the all-time 5th best country / rock duet. (This was already mentioned here by stellablueee back in ’08, but I either missed it or had forgotten).

    Good stuff…

    That was a great read!

Lu mentioned that Blonde On Blonde comment in a prior interview, maybe the one you missed while Christmas shopping, tnt? I can’t remember the radio show (my memory is shot)

Strange, I went in search of old interviews last night to fill in the LOL (lack of LU, as lwj coined 🙂 ) when I saw the above interview posted on Lu’s facebook page. It’s a long, detailed Q & A.

Or, more likely, *I* forgot hearing the story before. My memory ain’t what it used to be as well! 😳

One observation I would like to make about this Q & A is Lu’s admiration for Susan Tedeschi, specifically her performance at the Joplin tribute. Lu said almost exactly the same thing the night of the tribute where she was impressed with Susan. The more I think about it, the more I think she would be a perfect opening choice for Lu.

Is it too early to start lobbying for wish lists for opening acts when Lu hits the road??? 😀

Actually, Susan Tedeschi has opened for Lucinda. It happened in 2005 at The Mann Center in Philly, and I was lucky enough to be there. I think it might have been a one-off deal for Susan, but it did happen, and it was a great show. The only drawback was the weather, which was very hot and very humid the evening of the show. All the performers were wiping the sweat off their guitars between songs. Lucinda even commented on the weather, saying it felt “swampy”.

For those anywhere close to Masontown, WV on July 8-11, 2010, you can catch Susan at the All Good Music Festival and Campout.

As an avid camper, I’ve been to a few of these festivals under the tent and have really enjoyed them. Very friendly, family-oriented events.
