Lucinda covered a song in Nelsonville, OH by Rev Pearly Brown, a street musician her father took her to see in Macon, GA. She told the audience he was one of her first musical influences.

I went searching for some info on Pearly Brown and this is what I discovered:

The song Lucinda covered by Pearly Brown was a cover of an original by Blind Willie Johnson, recorded in 1929 “God Don’t Never Change.” I’m almost certain Lu introduced this song as “He’s God” (duly noted, as well, by West Words in the setlist from that same night).

I also went searching on YouTube and found this gem–a little viewed gem of Rev Pearly Brown, noted as from the 1966 Newport Blues Festival. This is some amazing, clear footage with Howlin’ Wolf sitting in the circle. There is more history here of the musicians gathered around, I’m sure, but I’m clueless. I picked up on Howlin’ Wolf from the comments section.

In the sidebar is some additional footage from the same, which lead me to Howlin’ Wolf covering Willie Dixon’s “Down Past The Bottom” also covered by John Mellencamp on “Trouble No More.”

Check all this Howlin’ Wolf footage, most of with minimal views. Unbelievable stuff.
