Not trying to influence the setlist or anything, but I was sitting in the not insignificantly named Tom’s Diner of downtown Denver this morn over breakfast, and “Can’t Let Go” came over the house soundtrack.

[Lu then makes a distinction between rain and rain w/lightning (“We might have to take a little break”]
2 Real Live Bleeding
3 Drunken Angel [during which no less a personage than David Sutton flips songbook pages, in the absence of a guitar tech within range]
[Interlude wherein Lu says “This is what ‘s called paying your dues” & “It builds character” & “I’m not ready to die on stage” & “I can’t believe how loyal y’all are. It’s very moving”]
4 Lake Charles {after which no less a personage than Lu Herself takes a towel to the songbook, sopping up accumulated moisture]
5 When I Look at the World [during which, the rain abating somewhat, I take the opportunity to dash from row 21 stage left to row 2 dead center]
6 Are You Down [featuring Lu looking skyward as she voices the first line of it]
7 Protection [before which Lu says “I think we might be ok”]
8 Changed the Locks
9 Righteously
10 BOB MARLEY COVER, “So Much Trouble in the World” I think: Lu introduces the band after as “3 guys with the power of 6” and announces that this song will be on Buick 6’s own impending album]
11 Joy
[Lu waves off the opening strains of “Get Right with God,” instead launching into. . .
12 Honeybee [during which it’s clear we are not “ok,” the rain streaming and causing the poor guitar tech to move around cleaning off instruments and even band personnel: tour manager Eric walks up to Lu during the song, apparently wanting her to stop, but no!]
13 Keep on Rockin in the Free World [Eric appeased, casually taking pictures and flashing Lu a thumbs-up]The rain had stopped by now, but Big Head Todd will have to wait until heard by me, in dry clothes if ever in future.
June 7, 2015 at 4:39 am #54326tonygKeymasterGreat report Mr. Stoger. Was it cold as well? Thanks for braving the elements. 😀
June 7, 2015 at 8:36 pm #54327LWjettaParticipantGreat reporting as usual stoger.
You have the knack of painting a picture of the scene in detail even with the elements pouring down.
I have trouble keeping 4 or 5 songs clear in my head, have to write everything down.
Funny, I pulled out my DVD collection a week or so ago and watched Neil Young’s “Friends & Relatives” live from Red Rocks September, 2000.
Same scenario with the downpours-Pegi Young and the other back-up singer had to back up to the rear of the stage to stay dry.
Maybe Lu should have ended the show not with Rockin’ but with the Doors.
Here’s a video of Lu from Germany in 2007 performing “Riders on the Storm”

Summer and Fall with Lu is going to be a great run.lwj

NO RAIN! NO RAIN! NO RAIN! NO RAIN!
That didn’t really work at Woodstock and it definitely didn’t work at Red Rocks. Quite a way to start this leg of tour. By the end of the set pools of water were all over the stage, when David S. would stomp his right foot the water splash up on him. Probably comes in 2nd place for the worst rainstorm we’ve played thru -Kansas City bak in 2011 will be pretty hard to beat. And wouldn’t you know as I type this a very brief thunderstorm blows thru with hail hitting the bus—lasted all of about 5 minutes and now it’s sunny again- welcome to summer in the midwest.
The cover of Bob Marley’s So Much Trouble In The World was the first time ever. If we are keeping the year-to-date song count, I believe that would be 81
June 8, 2015 at 11:51 am #54329LeftyParticipantYour reportage is in mid-season form, Professor. Thanks for the commentary. Water & ‘lectricity make me nervous 😕 😯 💡
June 8, 2015 at 5:38 pm #54330Mike_DoranParticipantWas a “lightning delay” when I attended last summers Tedeschi Trucks show there… made for some very tense (and wet) moments.. followed by great music and a killer Double Rainbow.
As Keith Richards (of all people) says.. when you play outdoors, God joins the band..
(He’s utilizing a rain stick this tour that so far has been quite effective 😉 )Great report as usual , Roger!
*noticed “Should I stay or Should I Go” as an option in TO’s set-list.. ever played before?? Or joke due to circumstances??June 8, 2015 at 7:46 pm #54331stogerParticipant@SamishSeaMike wrote:

Given the Marley, the Sonics, and the Sister Rosetta cover work-ups, I believe this title to be in the same vein.
June 9, 2015 at 10:55 am #54332ExileOnVainStreetParticipantFantastic fearless reporting Stoger, always a pleasure to read.
I would guess that Should I Stay Or Should I Go might be a cover of The Clash song from their “stadium” era which itself has more than a passing resemblence to Little Latin Lupe Lu by The Righteous Brothers.
June 9, 2015 at 1:21 pm #54333Mike_DoranParticipantFamiliar with The Clash’s song.. had never heard Lu cover it though.
Now looking forward to it.June 9, 2015 at 1:34 pm #54334stogerParticipantYes, Exile and Samish, thanks. I remember now that TO has mentioned to me that they worked up that song. Quite a roster of “new” cover artists, eh? I got to get my hands on that Sonics song. Didn’t they hail from the Pacific NW, Mike? A tie-in with the former NBA franchise even?
June 9, 2015 at 2:39 pm #54335Mike_DoranParticipantThey definitely did hail from the NW, Roger.. tacoma I believe.
They also pre-dated (and lasted longer than) our departed Super Sonics… -
