Thanks for doing the heavy lifting, Lefty. Yes, song five was not dedicated to our friendly Forum administrator himself per se, but in effect it was: alright! In front of “Pineola,” Lucinda mentioned Lisa Powell, who knew of Frank Stanford and apparently released a record or two on an Austin label years back under a different last name. She was in the house. In front of “Side of the Road,” Lu tipped her hat to the Schramms, who recorded that song: “those of you who like underground, obscure details might be interested in this.” And yes, the false start in encore was smiled through, no sweat.

So Lefty. Tom Overby was looking for you after the show. We huddled on this, but all we had to go on was a physical description provided by [insert drum roll here] merch person Susannah. I’m going to simply quote it directly, without comment: “a balding guy in a pink and blue shirt.” That’s all I’m saying. Sorry we didn’t get to meet.

Many citizens of downtown Rochester seemed to be under the impression that last night was in fact St. patrick’s Day. Also, an incorrect time of doors at 6 was floating around; the line was huge by seven when they did indeed open. And there were seats! Yes, the ticket stub said “GA-seated,” but I had ordered last minute for will call and just assumed standing. Still, a fourth row near aisle angle did me right throughout, Schermerhorn side of stage.

Let’s pass the baton to the Aussies now. . . .

Welcome, spotter. It was, indeed, a great night in Rochester. I’ll second rugles’ comments, too. Here’s the Cliff’s Notes version of my lost magnum opus (ha-ha)…

Harro’s was an interesting venue. Wasn’t too wild about the bar running along one side of the room. Generated a lot of cocktail party chatter. I’m glad Susannah can attest to Lefty’s existence. I will say that Lefty owns a high hairline and that Lefty does not own pink & blue shirts. Sorry I missed you and Tom, stoger. For the love of God tell me that you were not the guy near the front yelling/howling call-and-response during Tears of Joy. Thanks for clarifying those Lisa Powell comments.

Lucinda’s voice was large and in-charge last night. She reasserted herself as the lead instrument of this band of musicians, I think. I sensed no holes in the sound. Everybody on stage seemed at ease. It all worked for me.

Highlights: Well,Well,Well (of course) – had a slower, swampier mood than recorded version.
Side of the Road (bittersweet). People Talkin’ (yes, especially over at the bar). Changed the Locks. Every Picture. Come On and Joy drew the loudest reactions from the room. Eric earned kisses from the boss after Essence and Joy.

Miscellaneous Lu comments: “Really fun in here tonight…It’s refreshing to play in front of people who are wild…This is a great venue; we’ll definitely be back…I want you to hear songs that are the roots of my music (during encore)…Rochester rocks! Love & Peace!”

It was worth the extra five months’ wait. Safe travels to Oz, Lu & Crew.

Guys, the only reaction of mine during “Tears of Joy” was a silent bowing and scraping, knees to the floor, at the power of Eric Schermerhorn’s fantastic blues instrumental break prior to the final verse. Yes, quite a bit of chatter pervaded the house, Lefty. And if it makes you feel any better, Stoger could probably be described–by a young merch manager or anyone else–as “a greying guy with a black and black shirt.” Point is, you were looked for. Susannah told me she enjoyed meeting so many Lucinda fans during the tour, so no surprise that she might mix up some of them in her mind and her descriptions.
