Hi Guys,
As some of you know, I’m trying to build up a bigger Lucinda Williams collection on CD. Where I used to live, the selection was very limited on what I could find at my then local record store, which was VERY small. Some CDs came out that I wasn’t even aware of until now. Recently, I’ve gone back and started to fill in the gaps from the more common releases I bought over the years, buying some of the re-issues that are available including the self-titled reissue and the 2 CD Car Wheels On A Gravel Road deluxe.
So, I noticed that Live At Austin City Limits has some DVDs on the Live At Austin City Limits collection. I’ve got some of their other CD titles by Merle Haggard and Steve Earle, which are incredible. However, I can’t find where the Lucinda Williams live at ACL are available on CD, I only find DVD when I search. Is the CD format no longer made or was it only available on DVD from the beginning?
Thanks,
Jim

You would of course only want to do this for your own personal use, but I’ve done this with some of my favorie live dvd’s where an album’s not available (including Lu’s 1998 ACL dvd) so I could listen to the audio via my ipod, etc.
If you’re interested in more details, just shoot me a private message.

Yup – good advice. On my Macs, I’ve used an open source (i.e., free) player called VLC to play the audio portion of a DVD from the Mac’s DVD drive & another application (shareware) called Audio Hijack Pro to capture the audio to one large AIFF file. Then, I use a third application (also shareware) called Amadeus Pro to break the large AIFF file into separate ones for each track. Finally, iTunes can convert the AIFFs to ACC (or MP3) files for my iPods. (Amadeus Pro can also convert to AAC / MP3 format). I highly recommend all these applications for you Mac owners out there.
As an aside, the AIFF files can also be burned directly to a CD-R, which will play like any audio CD on those players that can play CD-R discs…
