I don’t recall seeing this posted in the FF.
Lu’s 9/26 Sirius interview with Elizabeth Cook on Outlaw Country, including two sound cloud bites.

October 2, 2014 at 9:55 pm #53591DavidKParticipantI kicked off the thread, so I feel a little obligated to add a few more. But all in all, I think it’s safe to declare DWTSMTB a critical success…
Interview with The Fader:
http://www.thefader.com/2014/10/02/lucinda-williams-another-country-interview4 out of 5 from Renowned for Sound:
http://renownedforsound.com/index.php/album-review-lucinda-williams-down-where-the-spirit-meets-the-bone/The highly regarded Stephen M. Duesner for Wondering Sound:
http://www.wonderingsound.com/review/lucinda-williams-down-where-the-spirit-meets-the-bone-highway-20/5 out of 5 from Blurt’s Fred Mills:
http://blurtonline.com/review/lucinda-williams-spirit-meets-bone/BTW, that last one is a reworded and expanded version of Mills’ review from Stomp & Stammer, noted earlier. I think he more artfully worded his criticisms in the first section, and I gotta say I really love his review for this record. And, hey, he’s contributing a score of 100 to the Metacritic score!
Not that any of that matters – I’ve been listening to this beast nearly constantly, and I can’t get enough. 😀

“A lot of times, I just write about the eternal sadness that never goes away.” That sentence is a song in itself.
“One time I got fired because I wasn’t perky enough on the phone.” Maybe that’s part of the inspiration for “Wrong Number” 🙂
October 7, 2014 at 2:50 pm #53595tonygKeymasterTruly great interview in the Rolling Stone. The discussion of her drawl is priceless. The details of her rift with Gurf were also interesting, and sad.
October 7, 2014 at 4:28 pm #53596Mike_DoranParticipant“…For a lot of these songs, I was sitting down and I picked a key that felt real relaxed, sort of like in the old days when jazz singers sat down and sang in the studio instead of belting it out all the time. They sang a little closer to the mike.”
Great line; great interview.October 9, 2014 at 12:20 am #53597vmorrisParticipantThat most worthy of publications, Garden & Gun, has reviewed DWTSMTB in its October/November 2014 issue (on newstands now!). I can’t find a link to it, but it’s short so I’ll type it:
“In the album biography that accompanies her new double record, Lucinda Williams says that ‘the saddest joys are the richest ones.’ It’s an apt description and something her father, the poet Miller Williams, once told her. She uses one of his poems in the stark opening track, ‘Compassion,’ which kicks off a journey of mournful country soul (the epic ‘West Memphis’) mixed with sassy roots rock (‘Protection’), and the exultant ‘Walk On,’ which is about as finger-snappy as Williams has ever been. Spirit is a lot to digest, but the rewards are well worth the effort.” M.H.
What does “the album biography” refer to?? Just the liner notes?
Also, here’s a link to a neat interview with Lucinda and Miller from the same magazine in 2009: http://gardenandgun.com/article/family-tradition ==> “LUCINDA: Flannery O’Connor’s writing and Hank Williams’s music explain everything you need to know about me as an artist.”
October 9, 2014 at 11:33 am #53598DavidKParticipantViv,
I suspect the reviewer is referring to this bio, which is likely sent out with any advance copies:

Here’s one more accolade to add to the pile, from Walter Tunis of the Lexington Herald-Leader:
