Get Right With GodAugust 5, 2012 at 2:08 pm #50269tonygKeymasterGreat show. On at 9:05, off at 11:12, the longest show of the week. I’ll try and post some remarks later today from the airport.

While we wait for tonyg to check in at the airport and to add his color commentary, here’s a review from the Calvin Theatre to enjoy.
An excerpt:
NORTHAMPTON _ A Lucinda Williams’ concert appearance is a lot like the fictional Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates in that you truly never know what you are going to get. There can be nights when things like song lyrics, guitar tuning, and general civility escape her, and there can be nights like Saturday at the Calvin Theater when she shines as one of the great American songwriters and performers.http://www.masslive.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2012/08/lucinda_williams_brilliant_at.html

August 5, 2012 at 8:48 pm #50273tonygKeymasterExcellent pictures Nancy!
Completely different vibe from Portland. Even more hot and sticky, but the air conditioning was working in the theater. Lu came out all smiles and showed great energy all night. Good crowd. Doug was on electric guitar on Greenville, rather than pedal steel as he was in Maine, and the song featured a “missing verse”, according to Lu. Are You Down was the best version I have heard, all 3 fellers playing hard. As the web interview stated, Lu called it Carlos Santana mixed with Sade. Good description. During the first Righteously, the band started the song before the lyric sheet was located. The band vamped at length before Lu waved it off. Lu went to the side of the stage and grabbed her lyric book back. “Now I’m a comedian”, she said. The rest of the show proceeded superbly. Lu seemed to not want the evening to end as the appreciative crowd applauded.
Towards the last few songs the aisles were filled near the stage with dancers; regular people doing conventional dancing. Mercifully. I met a website denizen named Chris. Great to meet ya! I got to bed at 2 am.
I am at the airport in Manchester NH, and it is pouring out so hard that the roof is leaking and there is water on my iPad. I have been told I will be lucky to leave here any time soon and I can forget about my connecting flight to LA in Chicago. Super. Note to self: never go anywhere.
Great to see everyone and I hope whoever attends the next few weeks of shows has as much fun as I did.
August 6, 2012 at 2:28 pm #50274bobParticipantIt’s been over three years since LW palyed at the Calvin. (3/9/09) and I am really glad to see her back there. Nice place, easy parking, and my GF and I could walk to dinner. And have a couple of sodas from the car after the show waiting for pictures and such.
August 6, 2012 at 6:55 pm #50275stogerParticipantGood work Bob, Nancy, and our intrepid Tony. Hope you are back in the sun safely. That lyric book debacle sounds close to the “Copenhagen” proceedings a few shows back, though she knows “Righteously” pretty through and through I would imagine.
Just had the best omen imaginable upon exiting my Amtrak train at Penn Station, but will start a stream with that soon.
August 6, 2012 at 6:57 pm #50276tonygKeymasterStream away!
Just got back home this morning.
