In the past couple of weeks Lu has been busy -I guess we just can’t give her a break ๐
She did a wonderful duet with the legendary Jimmy Webb on his song Galveston. He is finishing up an album of duets. We just got the finished version and Jimmy was so thrilled with it he is saying it may be the single.
A few days after that she also sang harmony on a song for Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, which is her longtime friend Colin Linden’s side band.
And this past Saturday a film crew came to the house and filmed Lu for a documentary about legendary delta blues singer Honeyboy Edwards. He is 94 years old and is still touring -in fact he is playing Cozy’s Blues club in LA on 1/15 & 16. As you might imagine he has an amazing story-for example he was with Robert Johnson the night he was poisoned in 1938. Anyway, Lu talked about Honeyboy -but she also talked a lot about the blues which is a topic she loves to talk about.
In addition to Lu, the movie will also include Keith Richards, BB King and Billy Gibbons among others.

December 16, 2009 at 1:14 am #41347parkercaParticipantVery cool. I’d love for Lucinda to do an album of blues covers one day.
I’ve discovered a lot of blues musicians though her covers over the years.December 17, 2009 at 3:42 pm #41348LafayetteParticipantAbsolutely cool! I love exploring the blues as well, and between John Mellencamp, Lu, and Alex Dixon ( Willie Dixon’s grandson), I, too, have discovered a genre I never thought would interest me. Actually, as the story goes, I would have never discovered Lu had it not been for Mellencamp’s blues and Americana cover record in 2003.
December 17, 2009 at 7:39 pm #41349TOverbyParticipantShe will almost definitely do a blues album someday, it is something she has been wanting to do for a long time–but it will not be this next record.

Cool – I’d love that, too. Remind Lu about the “Juke Joint Blues” CD collection I gave her in NYC – I think she’d be able to find a great song or two to cover off of that… ๐

I will be waiting with bated breath to hear her song choices if and when she decides to go forward with her wish to do a blues record.

Talk about a great “Blues” cover with Tony Joe and Lu of a Waylon Jennings song.

Here is a link to a clip of the movie— http://www.honeyboyfilm.comTom, in checking out that link, it appears that movie has been out a while (DVDs are available for order, a list of awards is on the main page, and the film synopsis ends with “The film concludes in Chicago, where Edwards, now 87, resides and continues to perform” which would have been about 7 years ago, judging from his current age. Is there a newer movie being made that Lu was interviewed for? I want to be sure & see it, but do not want to spend the $15 on this movie if it is the wrong one…

ยท View Paul Cantin’s blogA couple of days ago, I posted video of overdubbing sessions for Blackie & The Rodeo Kings’ long-planned album of duets, Kings & Queens. The clip showed overdubbing for an Emmylou Harris track, but the full range of who will be appearing on the record has been hush-hush until recently, when the band’s Facebook profile provided details. So according to a photo gallery posted on the website, here’s who sits in with Blackie & Co., and the titles of the songs they’ve contributed.
LUCINDA WILLIAMS sings IF I CAN’T HAVE YOU
AMY HELM sings I’M STILL LOVING YOU
CASSANDRA WILSON sings GOLDEN SORROW
EMMYLOU HARRIS sings STEP AWAY
HOLLY COLE sings BRAVE
ROSANNE CASH sings I’VE GOT YOU COVERED
MARY MARGRET O’HARA sings HEART A MINE
SAM PHILLIPS sings LOVE LAY ME DOWN
SERENA RYDER sings BLACK SHEEP
PAM TILLIS sings MY TOWN IS GONEJune 3, 2010 at 10:24 pm #41355LWjettaParticipant@TOverby wrote:

Here is a link to a clip of the movie— http://www.honeyboyfilm.comProducerRobPerkins โ June 01, 2010 โ “One of the few original Mississippi Delta Blues musicians still living today, David Honeyboy Edwards is a man who not only sings of hard times, he lived them. First hand accounts of sharecropping, jumping freight trains and playing juke joints by Edwards and his generation are soon to be lost, leaving such stories to history books and archival films. Originally intended to preserve this rare view of Americana, the film Honeyboy does that and much more.”
Directed by Scott Taradash and Produced by Rob Perkins, this film also features Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, BB King, Robert Cray and Lucinda Williams.
