Here’s the setlist for last-night’s show at the JP Morgan Chase WAMU Theater at Madison Square Garden. Additionally, “Hot_Blooded” has elegantly reviewed this show in the latest “What Kind of Crowds…” thread.
1. Real Love
2. Steal Your Love
3. Tears of Joy
4. People Talkin’
5. Jailhouse Tears
6. Car Wheels
7. Drunken Angel
8. Out Of Touch
9. Little Rock Star
10. Essence
11. Come On
12. Changed the Locks
13. Bleeding Fingers
14. HoneyBee
15. Joy
16. Righteously
17. I Live My Life
18. For What It’s Worth
19. It’s A Long Way to the Top…Incidentally, for those older threads which complain about New York labor curfews, and Lucinda being forced into a short show, last night was extremely well disciplined. Lucinda appeared on stage at 9:07, surprising many folks still in the bars, and the set was completed just before 11, which seemed to please the large staff of ushers and security.

Here are a few additional tidbits for folks: Lucinda framed “People Talkin'” as relevant to the political season. On “Jailhouse Tears,” she commented that “Doug will play the dog.” Before “Out of Touch,” Jessie Malin got a crosstown shout-out for his concurrent set at Bowery Electric. Before “Honeybee’ (written for him), Lu’s man got a shout-out for his impending round number birthday; the inititals IJ/TO should suffice here. Before “For What It’s Worth,” Lu commented that “even Democrats can wear red, white, and blue” (reference to her guitar strap). Toward the end of the ACDC cover, certain band members got butt pats, and Lu finished the number on the drumsticks. All in all, Letterman safely behind her, Lucinda gave a relaxed yet stirring set, I’d say.

A lot of credit goes out to the crew that seamlessy changed gear without the usual background hiss or feedback. Having seen LU at the Beacon and Town Hall shows, the quality of the sound system worked real great. I’ve seen plenty of shows at WaMu and the crew deserves a MAJOR shout out.
As LU noticed, the 5,600 capacity theater was a much larger spot than what she is used to in NYC. But none of the warmth or intimacy of some of her most introspective songs were lost. Her self affacing personality as well as her depth came through on a lot of the songs; especially some of the new and deeeply personal songs from Honey Bee. “Steal your Love” is such a deep expression of unrequieted love and the way she performed it was so very intimate.
Nice to see some of the songs that she worked on live over the the last year made the final cut on the album (Jailhouse Rock, Honey Bee). The have only gotten better.
And of course Bucik 6….what a band!!!! picking the right guitars to perfectly compliment the vibe that is being conveyed with each song; Rickenbacker, Gretsch and the usual assortment of Gibson and Fenders…they ROCKED when needed too….putting it into overdrive…but they also can dial it down and get into that deep groove sound that you just know is exclusively “Lucinda Williams”….CAN’T WAIT till the Buick 6 album is released…
See you on the road
October 4, 2008 at 10:01 pm #37448aloyisusParticipantI can only echo the responses before me….last night’s show was a brilliant one! Lu was in great spirits the whole night, and was really on top of her game! Buick 6’s opening set was cool, and they really did put it into overdrive backing Lucinda!!
The set list was an awesome one, and i was lucky enough to get the guy at the soundboard to give me his copy once the show ended…AND lucky enough to have both Doug & Chet sign it when i just happened to run into them after the show!!!
Here it is, Doug’s name on the left, Chet’s to the right:

Just post it with “img” tags. Like the following:

but replace the curly braces {} with square brackets []. Be sure, though, to use the url of the image itself, not of the PhotoBucket page…

“In case there was any doubt left, Lucinda Williams is now a rocker. “

good to see that this big venue didn’t overwhelm her. Thanks for the reports….
