With the final leg of the last tour producing nothing more than lackluster ticket sales and mixed reviews (cheerleading aside), it will be interesting to see where this tour goes–especially in light of double-dipping with the opener/headliner band (Buick 6) accompanying LWs. With the entertainment dollar being under siege it seems curious that Lost Highway and/or TO are not putting together a more interesting bill in terms of an opening band. After all, the possible combinations are endless! In an effort to keep it real, it’s not as if this combination was selling out the small to medium theaters where they were booked.

She should do more shows up here in the northeast. She doesn’t draw well in LA either. I noticed she’s playing the Flynn Theatre in Burlington, VT on March 13. Are you going?
December 17, 2008 at 10:43 am #38369DavidinMaineParticipantI imagine with the VT gig in the books, she will move closer to Concord, NH and Portland where she has always played during her secondary market stops. Although I love Burlington, March in VT is pretty harsh in terms of spring storms and I will wait to see how the tour develops. With all due respect, I am not so sure I would make the trek for her current sound/configuration…

I think the theory on number of tickets = which venue is correct. Variety is OK, but Tabernacle is special. It has reopened since the tornado, with other acts playing. In addition to Lu, I saw Willie, Foo Fighters, and Ben Harper in the Tabernacle. It is an old church converted into a hall, complete with the pipes of the old pipe organ behind the stage. Lu likes to play Get Right with God, Atonement, Unsuffer Me, etc., when there. GREAT SHOW; don’t miss it! I have my reserved balcony and cannot wait.

To interested parties: I’m on the floor for Atlanta Tabernacle!
…or maybe the Variety Playhouse. 😉
Pollstar.com just listed Lucinda as playing the Variety Playhouse as does High Road Touring, while Ticketmaster continues to stubbornly sell tickets to a show the same night at the Tabernacle. I have a theory. At approximately 1100 capacity, the Variety Playhouse will be the venue if ticket sales do not exceed that number. On the other hand, if they do, the venue will be the Tabernacle, which holds about 2500. I don’t know how long there would be this flexibility until a commitment to one venue or the other would have to be made, but this is what I think is going on for the time being.

Well, I’ve called Ticketmaster a lot worse than “stubborn”–we’ll see. My decision not to drop the big nine bucks for that Tabernacle reserved parking slot is lookin’ pretty good at moment. . . .
So will you work the I-20 corridor and make a [Lu]weekend of it?

Yeah, I’d steer clear of the parking pass. There are a lot of places within walking distance to park – including free on-the-street parking meter (no charge on weekends) if you are lucky enough to find it. Having said that, I *did* pay $20 to park for a show at the Tabernacle once, but we were pushed for time & I didn’t want to shop around. This will be different – we will be there waaaay early to get up front in line & will be able to drive around looking for a bargain.
I’m still considering the “I-20” run, stoger. If I was a betting man (I’m not), I’d say we will indeed be going to Birmingham. After all, it is only a 3 hour drive from our house. If we think we can do it w/o a hotel stay & boarding the dogs for the night, then yes, definitely. But, that involves a 3-hour drive AFTER the show which is hard. So we’ll see.
How about you? Are you “Bama Bound”?

The Alabama Theatre was a nice show in fall of ’07, but we shouldn’t expect too many upscale bars or lounges for a pre-show libation in the immediate vicinity. Reserve seats I do believe, though I wouldn’t mind a War Memorial Auditorium-like scramble (which turned into a crawl, with almost too many options, as you know). Will she do “Where Is My Love” there, reckon?

Yup, it was – Sarah & I were there as well. Killed some time on the street corner before the show chewing the fat with Charlie Louvin, Tim (from this forum) & Tim’s Mom. Good times… 😉
If we do end up going, I’ll shot you a PM so we can meet up if you’d like.
