No Depression a new article on the re-release by Amos Perrine.
    It’s a great read.
    An excerpt.
The third one piqued my interest if only by having an Olympia neon sign in the window, the guy at the door told us a local favorite — a skinny girl with bleached blonde hair and guitar — had just begun her set. I did not get her name, I was not feeling optimistic; we found some seats, I walked up to the bar and was turning around with the Olympias as she sang:
“Sylvia was working as a waitress in Beaumont…I’m tired of these small town boys, they don’t move fast enough/I’m gonna find me one who wears a leather jacket and likes his living rough.”

Thank you all so much for working so hard on the Re-Release of the album that was more important to me than any other. Even more important than “Car Wheels”. I was just checking that the “live from Austin”-DVD was recorded at October 13, 1989. It was a confusing time in Germany those days. In those days I used to travel to the GDR to visit my cousins – years later I realised that there is a songwriter on the other side of the Ocean… Go ahead, I’m really looking forward to “De Luxe”! “I walked out in a field..”…

[attachment=0:1r7a8sdr]91_roselucindamary.jpg[/attachment:1r7a8sdr]Rosanne Cash, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Lucinda toured Australia in 1991.
Here’s a quote from Mary on “Passionate Kisses”

Lucinda and I were on tour with Rosanne Cash in Australia and we were playing sets when we’d all be on stage at the same time, swapping songs and stories,” says Carpenter. “I had loved Lucinda’s music since the early 90s. She played “Passionate Kisses” every night and I accompanied her on guitar and harmonies. Afterwards in the dressing room I would tell her how much I loved her music. One night she just got tired of it and said ‘Why don’t you just record that song?’ Informally I got her blessing. It’s one of the greatest songs in the world. It’s an anthem.”

And a great pic. above of the three of them down under.

Sorry no videos from this tour can be found.

i don’t think it helps, but if the idea is to include some live versions of songs here are 7 bootlegs i like a lot from that era:

Live- Austin TX, KUT-FM, 1981 (best live version of “abandoned”, no contest)

Live- Los Angeles VA, KPFK-FM Folkscene, 1985 (IJWTSYSB)

Los Angeles CA, KPFK-FM Broadcast, 1989

    San Francisco CA, Slim’s, 1989

Auckland New Zealand, The Gluepot, 1989

Los Angeles CA, KPFK-FM Broadcast, 1989

Live- Santa Monica CA, McCabes Guitar Shop, 1991 (there’s some stuff from SoW here)

    *

i hope to see “song for a jewelry maker”, “all i want” and “wild and blue” there. and what about the CBS demos from 1986?

    ops, forgot about:

SOAP CREEK SALOON, AUSTIN TX – JUNE 7, 1984

    LIVE SET KUT-FM – AUSTIN, TX – MARCH 30, 1986

both really wonderful. those 2 were really hard to find. i hope it helps. it’d be awesome to have stuff like that preserved and remastered.

pdl, I’m guilty of having some of these bootlegs, including KUT FM Austin 1981 and Slim’s in San Francisco, Feb./89, Slim’s is very shortly after the Rough Trade release and as per the band intro recording Lucinda opened for Joe Ely.
I believe Tom O was looking for video around the release date of late 1988 or 1989 which doesn’t seem to be found on the Net.
Back to the self-titled, I listened last night to disc 5 from the El Rey September 10, 2007 and it really whet’s the appetite for the re-release this fall. I love the in between song banter by Lucinda on these live recordings. For her band intro just before I Asked for Water she “forgot; to introduce the “Chet”
Hoping for another great live show in Nashville being broadcast on the radio.

Here’s a trivia question for everyone from the album cover below.
    What’s she looking at ?
Isn’t this one of the best of the best photos of Lu ?

We are hustling like crazy to make a 11/12 or 11/19 release date -the regular version, which was remastered last Sat night, will include a bonus live show from May of 89. The deluxe version will include a special package and third disc, which should include the 86 CBS demos -we just have to figure out all the credits, like who is actually playing on them etc.
Going thru all the things from this era had been an interesting search. We do have a ton of live recordings form the 80’s and 90’s including most of the above but probably not all-and most of them are on cassette-although the owner of McCabes has said he is storing all of the original recordings of all her shows there. Digging thru all these things has only reinforced the idea of a Lu “bootleg series” and I already have ideas for the first 3 or 4 volumes. But first the RT reissue and then the new record(s). Now that we have control of the releases on our own label I think we will have a timely and steady schedule of new and old.

Great stuff. I can’t wait until November. Looking forward to the 3rd & Lindsley show. Going to show my wife how to record WRLT’s show onto the VHS Hi Fi deck.

i’m happy about the 86 demos. yeah! the album versions are so much better, but those are lovely. it’s a pity that we don’t have a demo for ‘side of the road’. (as far as i’m concerned, and i hope i’m mistaken.)

i guess car wheels also deserved some celebration, call it a ‘quinceañera special edition’. we need one with the gurf morlix demos and the very rare, very special nashville demos. can you do it by christmas? 🙂

    you mean you’re fortunate?

    leave guilt for guilty stuff!
