Thanks for all the great info…

Perhaps the record could be mastered by Portland’s own and award-winning Bud Ludwig/Gateway Mastering. As you know, Bruce Springsteen loves to visit Gateway for many reasons including the fact that he can walk around with sunglasses and a hat without being mobbed. Plus, a visit to J’s Oyster Bar for fresh Maine seafood and Gritty’s for a pint is always fun… Perhaps a quiet one-off at One Longfellow Square or The North Star Cafe while in town for the mastering???
June 1, 2010 at 9:31 pm #43110TOverbyParticipantYes–we are very excited that Don is able to be involved. He and Lu really have a palpable vibe between them -a great energy. He wrote her and told her that he thought she was one of the greatest artists in the world and if there was any way he could be involved he wanted to be.
Bob is the mastering legend and I have used him on past projects but we are really happy with the work of Gavin Lurssen who has done Lu’s last two records. He is kind of becoming the new Bob -his resume very impressive and growing every day.June 6, 2010 at 11:52 pm #43111LWjettaParticipant@TOverby wrote:
Yes –we start on Tues, as believe i’ve mentioned elsewhere. She is rarin’ to go -and she is indeed very thrilled that all the pieces have come together the way they have.
Actually everybody involved is really excited, there is a very positive energy with all of this right now. I think everyone knows this could be a very special record.TOverby, how about an update on the first week in the studio?
Thanks.

lwjI heard recently from a certain Friendly Forum member who has exchanged e-mails w/ Lu within the last few days that Lu told him they were “kicking aĆĆ” in the new album studio sessions that began June 1st…

June 9, 2010 at 7:13 pm #43113TOverbyParticipantWell I can second Lucinda’s opinion -we have tracked 12 songs in the first six days and things really couldn’t be going any better. Lucinda has really bonded with Don and the band is just sounding great. We were thrilled to be able to get Rami Jaffee on keyboards and accordion for the last three days last week and his addition has been great. For those not familiar with Rami he was the keyboard player in the Wallflowers and most recently the Foo Fighters. He also was the keyboardist in Neil Young tribute band at the Grammys. With Greg Leisz, Rami and Don we almost have the whole band from that night. It looks like we will be able to finish the basic tracking this week, which just leaves overdubs, but at this point with Greg and Rami being able to add just about anything we need, it doesn’t look like we will need to do very many.
We have invited a couple of other people to stop by this week but at this point it’s a little up in the air.
Overall the vibe is so good -Lucinda is having a ball and singing her ass off-she’s been saying that this is by far the most she’s enjoyed being in the studio. It’s still early but everyone involved feels like they are working on something really special.
I’m trying to figure out who Lucinda emailed -usually she will mention things like that but she didn’t say anything. I think I have a pretty good idea.June 9, 2010 at 7:26 pm #43114parkercaParticipantVery Cool! Thanks for the update Tom!
June 9, 2010 at 8:10 pm #43115tntracyParticipantTomO just e-mailed me the following three pictures taken during the current studio sessions (by none other than hot dog connoisseur & part-time celebrity photographer Butch!) so I could resize, host & post ’em up here in the Friendly Forum.
I told him I especially like the one of Lu in the shades & head wrap. Seems that there is a “funny little back story” about it that he said he’d post up here when he gets a chance.
Enjoy! Each pic has a caption below it identifying everyone…

P.S. Thanks Tom for sharing these!

After As a result she really wants to try and get that feel for the whole record and we are shooting to have done in less than a month. If we can do that we will still be trying for a late fall release, which is what i’m hoping for.

Glad to see the sessions are going so well, really appreciate the progress reports TO and this is of course wishfull thinking on my part, but I looked up the Grammy Awards eligibility dates for # 53 to be held in 2011 and it runs from September 1, 2009 thru September 30 , 2010.
Is it in the realm of possibility to accomplish the release for what I’m sure will be Lu’s 11th nomination in that time frame ?
Butch’s ( hot dog ) studio shots are great. Thanks for posting.
lwjJune 10, 2010 at 3:29 pm #43117tntracyParticipantWow, new Lu music in our hands by 9/30? While that would be awesome, LWJ, it’s a couple of months earlier than “late Fall” in my mind… đ I’m betting we’ll be fortunate to have it by late November, early December. At any rate, I know I can’t wait!!!
