concerning port arthur, besides the fayetteville version on youtube, are there other versions available? i’d like to listen to it/them.

i’ve been out in the jungle these past two weeks (really) and i’d like to know if the pre-order of blessed through the site is still happening… shipping worldwide as well?
February 14, 2011 at 2:19 am #43274LafayetteParticipantI recorded “Port Arthur” in its infant phase, when at that time she titled the song “Difficult Child.” She had just finished writing it 10 minutes before she hit the stage, as the story goes, in Cleveland, at the Janis Joplin tribute show, part of the RNR HOF series. This version is missing a verse. I forgot the reason as to the exclusion. I think tnt knows the story behind the missing verse.

Love the samples! I can’t wait to hear the whole thing! The Kitchen Tapes sound pretty amazing. “Seeing Black” sounds AMAZING. That’s one I’M REALLY looking forward to.
I first heard “Seeing Black” at the Napa show last summer. I, as well as everyone else in the audience, was blown away! Everyone there gave it a standing ovation – including the hard-rocking Pretenders’ fans. What an incredibly powerful song!

If memory serves, the story goes that, since Lu was still writing the lyrics literally minutes before taking the stage in Cleveland, she had each verse on a separate slip of paper. In playing around with the order of the verses, she inadvertently left one out…

how wonderful is blessed, the song? i’ve been listening to it nonstop and i’m very impressed. deeply moving final section, really beautiful harmony & strong instrumentation. reminds me the last two minutes of mama you sweet, in power and beauty and awesomeness.

February 17, 2011 at 11:47 pm #43284punchdrunkloveParticipantin copenhagen i love when she sings she was 57 years old when the incident took place. don’t know why, maybe because i don’t remember any song reminiscing an incident in which the singer reveals HIS/HER age when it happened. sounds like a beautiful way to inscribe herself in that event and inscribe the listener to her experience. and not exactly because she reveals her age, but because she thinks even if she was 70 she’d be still asking why, oh why.
February 18, 2011 at 1:58 am #43285punchdrunkloveParticipantoh, SEVEN years old, not 70.
makes sense either way in fact. 😀
