At the beginning of the last leg of the tour I got a call from Buddy Miller who was in the studio with T-Bone Burnett recording music for the new ABC TV series Nashville. Buddy said T-Bone was looking for something kind of like Get Right With God so as Buddy said to me “I decided to go right to the source”. As a result I sent them several rough drafts of new Lucinda songs from which they chose two, Something Wicked This Way Comes and Bitter Memory. A couple weeks ago I got another call from Buddy saying that they now wanted to use Bitter Memory as one of the feature songs -and they also wanted to know if Lucinda could write a second section for the song which she was happy to do. I don’t think it will appear in the first episode on 10/10 but I think it will start showing up in the second or third episode and recurring for at least a couple episodes. It will be sung by the Connie Britton character. I then got an email from Buddy saying that they had recorded a version of Bitter Memory with Dan Auberbach singer/guitarist of the Black Keys which he described as out of this world–and which Lucinda was very excited about as she has loved the Keys for a long time. I haven’t yet heard any of the versions -apparently they are keeping them under wraps which is understandable. As they film more episodes I find out if it keeps recurring and right it seems to be in thru episode six- hopefully it will stay in longer but either way it’s been a great and unexpected development. As they -stay tuned. I know that’s quite the cliche but what the hell.

October 7, 2012 at 1:46 pm #50560West WordsParticipantVery cool, thanks Tom. Must-see TV! 🙂
October 8, 2012 at 7:53 pm #50557GrumpyMamaParticipantI watched the pilot online the other night. Good music with a nice touch of old school night time soap drama. I must admit, though, I’m a Connie B. fan. And as Tom mentioned Bitter Memory is not in the pilot episode. There is a scene, however, reminiscent of Lu when the lead character has issue with the sound during rehearsal. 😮

October 19, 2012 at 6:19 pm #50561Drunken AngelParticipantI am a Connie Britton fan as well but this show did not interest me until I read this thread. Soap opera indeed but I think I’ll hang with it, at least until we hear Lu’s song. There are a lot of songs that play within an episode and the only way to really know details about them is to watch with the closed-caption on.
Looking forward to any more details you can provide, Tom O. Thanks!

October 31, 2012 at 8:47 pm #50563TOverbyParticipantThanks for posting that I hadn’t seen it. Lucinda was very excited to read it. For whatever reason I still haven’t heard any of the versions that they recorded- I guess they are making sure they don’t leak- but Buddy M. told me that the version with Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) is outta this world. I think some version of the song starts to appear tonight in episode 4 but that may have changed.

I watched last night’s episode and am pretty certain “Bitter Memory” wasn’t played. It’ll probably appear in the next one or the one after. Most of the songs are made available to DL from iTunes after the episode airs.
April 24, 2013 at 2:10 pm #50565DavidKParticipantLooks like “Bitter Memory” is finally going to see the light of day, with the official Vol. 2 of the soundtrack:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/music-nashville-original-soundtrack/id633684344FYI, if you are buying the CD, Target will have an exclusive version with additional tracks (though “Bitter Memory” is featured on the regular edition as well):
http://www.target.com/p/nashville-volume-2-deluxe-soundtrack-only-at-target/-/A-14556354I wonder if this means that the song will finally be featured in an upcoming episode. I quit following the show for the most part, but I don’t think “Bitter Memory” has made an appearance yet.
April 24, 2013 at 4:44 pm #50566Drunken AngelParticipantThanks for that info, DavidK!
I have been hanging with the show (for better or worse) and Bitter Memory still hasn’t been in an episode yet.
May 23, 2013 at 2:25 am #50567LWjettaParticipantBitter Memory finally made it tonight about 15 minutes into the program.

I had no idea it would be presented on the show as a duet with “Rayna James” and Brad Paisley. In the context of what the TV show actually is, I guess the version was fairly tolerable. It’s much better than Connie Britton’s solo version, IMO.May 29, 2013 at 10:40 am #50569LWjettaParticipantA You Tube of “Bitter Memory: for those who didn’t catch the show last week.
