While in Lafayette’s basement near Cincinnati, OH & after attending the Lu / Amos Lee show in Cleveland, I discovered a new (at least new to me and, I believe, this forum) Lu rarity in my daily e-mail from eBay of new “Lu listings”. There is a radio station out of Fordham University, Bronx, NY called WFUV. It seems that they have also been releasing a series of live, in-studio performances on CD much like KGSR in Austin, TX. Volume 1 of this “City Folk Live” series was released in 1998 and includes a live performance of “Lake Charles”.

I ended up finding another used copy on Amazon Marketplace for cheaper than the one listed in eBay, I ordered it right there from Lafayette’s basement, and it arrived here at home today. According to the liner notes, “Lake Charles” was recorded at Tramps, New York on July 28, 1998 (all the other tracks have just a recorded date listed, so apparently this recording by Lu was not actually “in-studio”). It does not list the players; just that the recording was engineered by Baker Lee. It is a good live version of one of my favorite Lu songs, a decent recording, and a welcome addition to my Lu “Rarities, Guest Appearances & Duets” collection. Here is the cover art from the CD:

Somehow I missed this thread. Very cool find, love the artwork, and good to know my basement could have been the beginning of many more Lu rarity finds!

    I “missed” this thread also.
tnt-you indeed have a “Rarity” of Lu’s. A live recording of Lake Charles one day before the release date of CWOAGR on June 30, 1998.
There were two sold out concerts at Tramps , June 29, 30, 1998.
David Mansfield and Jimmy Vaughan were sitting in at the 2nd one.
Can’t find any info on the first night.
Here is a review of the 2nd night entitled “Six Years in the Making, Songs Seek Perfection.

glorious version. i downloaded it somewhere and find a bit unfortunate that, being a track in a released album, i can’t post it here.

i always think that it’s sad to let rarities like this die, esp. among fans.
