February 22, 2010 at 11:01 pm #40852LWjettaParticipantHaven’t bought the CD yet but have enjoyed some samples-especially this one “You’re My Lover Now”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y00Vl-7lmhsThis is not really the point of my post Tntracy, because I know Pieta is one of your top 10 as reported on this forum elsewhere.
Since this is Lucinda’s Forum, I am continually amazed at her links to many other great artists.
In this case Bo Ramsey’s close link to Pieta.
Now my dilemna. Of course, Tom you know Pieta is opening for Mark Knopfler ( Dire Straits ) on an rather large tour this year. I don’t see anything for the tour even remotely close to Atlanta, but I’m in luck.
Appearing April 28 /10 at the University of Buffalo ( tickets $85-$95 US before Ticket****** fees )
Appearing April 29 /10 at Massey Hall in Toronto ( tickets $75-$145 CDN before you know what.
I’ve been to both venues several times . Buffalo has about 1,400 seats and Massey Hall double that.My dilemna is tax returns are due here in Canada with any balance owing by April 30 /10
I’m a semi-retired accountant and traditionally am quite busy the last part of April.
Should I just say the **** with it and go for the music?
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
This concert would probably be the big one for me until Lu hits the road again. ( Mark, Pieta and hopefully Bo all in one night )lwj
p.s. Found this interview / video with Pieta and Bo from December 11, 2009.( look for Almanac on Demand December 2009)
TPT Television in Minneapolis. same song “You’re my lover now” but in a real high quality format.
http://www.tpt.org/almanac/#February 23, 2010 at 3:05 pm #40853tntracyParticipantOh, I don’t know, LWJ – that would be awfully pricey for me to see Pieta Brown, especially as an opening act with a short set. Personally, I wouldn’t do it, but I’m not a huge Mark Knopfler fan (I recognize he is a great, extremely talented guitar player, but I am not familiar with his music since the old Dire Straits days).
But, if you want to see Mr. Knopfler as well, why not? 😉

Many of these show in that price range and above are not selling out-not saying this one will or won’t, but in many cases they aren’t. What has been happening is that ticket prices are greatly reduced in the last week or so before the show, and you can get them for pennies on the dollar. It’s not always very publicized when they do this, for many reasons, but it has been happening a lot in recent times.
Also you might want to reach out Pieta’s mgmt and find out if she is going to do her own tour this year. Many times these opening slots pop up unexpectedly and they end up being in addition to, or being used to try and set up their own tour to follow. Her own tour would already be booked or in the works because you have to start working on these things 4 months in advance just reserve the dates -especially heading toward the summer when activity is higher.
Hope this helps with your decision.February 24, 2010 at 1:02 am #40855DavidinMaineParticipantMore specifically LwJ, you could visit The Rosebud Agency in order to get the real-time low down goods… http://www.rosebudus.com/brown/ Sometimes, it’s not very complicated especially now as the economical pressures start to make us all be more resourceful and more creative, right? As Sigmund Freud once said “Sometimes a cigar is simply a cigar.”
February 24, 2010 at 3:29 am #40856tntracyParticipantNot as a close-by option for you LWJ, but regarding Pieta Brown live shows in general, Pieta will be on Mountain Stage Live in Morgantown, West Virginia March 21st with Patty Loveless & Loudon Wainwright III. The show will be recorded for later broadcast on NPR stations that air the Mountain Stage Live show (here is a list).

Thanks all for your insight and advice.@tntracy wrote:

I agree, I’ll hold onto my wallet for this show. My preference would have been Buffalo. ( a little closer drive )
The most expensive concert I have ever attended ( paid$145+fees) and don’t regret it one bit was NEIL, December, 2008 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto with Wilco opening. This is a 20,000 seat venue and was sold out so fast that a 2nd night was added. Re: Wilco, I attended their sold out concert in Hamilton, On last night for $42.+ fees. Great evening with a 2 1/2 hour set including a 6 song encore. Once Jeff and the band took the stage almost everyone (except the 1st 2 or 3 rows) stood and remained standing for the entire time.@TOverby wrote:

OK Tom O-So what’s the trick for last minute deals? If it’s a Ticket****** / Live Nation promotion, do they actually announce reduced prices?

Excellent site David. Two things struck me-Jim Lauderdale is on their list of artists-Would love to see his concert some day. The 2nd thing was the link to The House of Blues Radio Hour with Mr. Aykroyd streaming or live. ( Blues Brothers movie is such a classic. ) I’ve now marked this site as a favorite for future reference.
Again, thanks guys. The real issue? I have with this Forum is it just seems endless on great musical discoveries.
For example, I posted a simple reference to ACL relocating and look what we got.Excellent audio / video downloads of the 4th unheard of Lucinda appearance thanks to Tom O.lwj
March 8, 2010 at 3:29 pm #40858LWjettaParticipantThis is not Pieta’s new CD but one worth watching.
Pieta samples tracks from her album “Remember the Sun” on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” 11/13/07.The DJ lent her a sweater for the cold air-conditioned studio and just to keep her head warm, Pieta was sporting one of these.
Here is the link to watch this 35 minute video.

lwjMarch 8, 2010 at 6:19 pm #40859tntracyParticipantA new full-length CD (Shimmer is an EP), One & All, is due out April 6th. Also, here is an early review with a couple of full-length sample tracks.
Thanks for the link, LWJ – I’ll be sure & check it out…

March 9, 2010 at 5:23 pm #40860ScottParticipantTaking my little 8 yr old girl to see Pieta and Bo doing an afternoon show at a nature center outside of Rockford Illinois this Sunday. It should really be cool.

I’ll say! I’m jealous!

March 9, 2010 at 7:15 pm #40862LafayetteParticipantMy favorite afternoon music host just played a Pieta song and announced she may be stopping in the area for a show AND stopping by studio in next few months.

How cool is that!
March 15, 2010 at 12:38 pm #40864ScottParticipantThe show on Sunday was really special. My little girl and I were in the front row, so close we could hear Bo’s guitar switches. It was basically a small lecture hall so it lacked a bit of ambiance but those two transformed the place. I would say maybe half the crowd was familiar with her stuff but afterward, all were fans. She has such a sweet stage presence and her singing and song craft are just getting better. Bo was just incredible. Not an unnecessary note. Unbelievable tone. Little one got an autograph, t-shirt and a pic with Pieta. Don’t think she’ll forget this one anytime soon.
