March 1, 2011 at 4:58 pm #45929LafayetteParticipantI was very happy to hear “Port Arthur” performed in Nelsonville on Saturday. I was in Cleveland the night Lu originally performed this song, finishing the lyrics minutes before she stepped on the stage. That night she hadn’t even come up with a title, thinking at first she would call it “Difficult Child.” She later changed it to “Port Arthur.”
This songs tugs at my heartstrings.

18) He’s God – “I learned this from a guy named Blind Pearly Brown – a blind preacher street singer – my dad took me to see when I was 6 years old living in Macon, Georgia. My first musical influence I can remember. You can find his music out there if you look.”
“Sending this out to Christopher Hayseed Wyant; he wrote one of my favorite songs – ‘I got a God-shaped hole in my soul’.”
“I used to, in the heyday of the feminist movement, used to say ‘She’s God’.”
I was doing some research on this song while it is uploading on YT and came across some interesting (to me) FYI. I love the expanse of Lucinda’s musical influences. ..
Here is some info on Blind Pearly Brown:

I found Hayseed’s website, where Lu is mentioned, along with a photo of her with Hayseed. Miller Williams is mentioned as well on the home page, a testimonial about Hayseed. I wish Hayseed would have made an appearance, especially with what seems as a mutual admiration.

“Hayseed’s music is roots music. Not from just one tree but a whole grove: bluegrass, old-time, country, gospel, folk, rock, soul…”

March 2, 2011 at 3:38 pm #45938LafayetteParticipantEvery now and then I come up with a good one, even if it’s a knockoff of an outstanding marketing concept with the album.
March 2, 2011 at 3:39 pm #45939LafayetteParticipantI would love to see added friendly forum members taking their “Blessed” photos and posting them… 😀
