October 4, 2009 at 2:41 pm #33184LafayetteParticipantFor all that cannot make it to Lu’s NYC shows, and you would love to catch NEIL! live from Farm Aid today (tonight), Oct 4, there are several options listed on Farm Aid website (DirectTV link, FA website link and XM link.)

NEIL! performs after John Mellencamp and before Willie Nelson, to keep it in perspective for you if you just want to tune in to catch his performance.

December 30, 2009 at 6:18 pm #33228LWjettaParticipanthttp://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/12/30/order-canada.html
The Order of Canada (French: Ordre du Canada) is an honour for merit that is, within the Canadian system of honours, the highest such order administered by the Governor General-in-Council,[n 1] on behalf of the Queen of Canada.[5] Created in 1967, to coincide with the centennial of Canadian Confederation, the three-tiered order was established as a fellowship that recognizes the achievement of outstanding merit or distinguished service by Canadians, through life-long contributions in every field of endeavour, and who made a major difference to Canada, as well as the efforts made by non-Canadians who have made the world better by their actions.[6]
Anyone know what the American equivalent to this award is?

It’s apparently a tie between the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor & the Presidential Medal of Freedom…

December 30, 2009 at 6:51 pm #33230tonygKeymasterI take it my Bozo badge is not as high an honor. 😥
December 30, 2009 at 10:21 pm #33231TOverbyParticipantA Bozo badge is the highest honor anyone can achieve.
Also -on the Neil front -during the upcoming Grammy week Neil will be honored as Musicares Man Of The Year and Lucinda, Emmylou and Patty Griffin will be performing Comes A Time at the show. Should be a great night.
Musicares is an organization that helps musicians with health care, substance abuse etc.

Here is a quote I found from a fan about NEIL which seems to describe him to a T.
Quote
“Neil made me a fan when he wrote (and sang, of course) “Big John’s been drinkin’ since the river took Emmy Lou”. Any artist who could write that lyric, sing it over top of screaming electric guitars, and make it sound PERFECT is nothing less than a rocker of the highest order.Since then I’ve immersed myself in much more of his music, but that one line from “Powderfinger” (a song that seems to sit beneath the surface of his body of work – you never hear it on the radio but it is easily one of his top 5) was the impetus for my long love affair with his music”.End Quote

Also, here is a “Powderfinger” video from Germany, 2001. Neil’s half-sister and his wife are the back up singers.
Great song indeed.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAhg3Ge7TFM
