Neil Young Benefit Concert to Be Streamed Live [NY Times]

Every October, Neil Young and his wife, Pegi, gather some of Mr. Young’s colleagues for two benefit concerts for the Bridge School, a nonprofit school in Hillsborough, Calif., that specializes in teaching students with physical and speech impairments. The shows have long attracted international attention for their starry lineups as well as for the cause they support, and in recent years the school has released CD and DVD compilations of some of the best performances.

This year the Saturday-evening show on Oct. 26 will be streamed live in a Webcast sponsored by Warner Bros. Records. The Webcast can be seen on the school’s YouTube channel (www.youtube.combridgebenefitconcert), which also includes clips from past concerts. (There is a repeat on Sunday, which will not be streamed).

Mr. Young always performs at the shows, which have been held annually since 1986 (with the sole exception of 1987) at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, Calif., either on his own or with one of his bands – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Crazy Horse and Buffalo Springfield. And he is always joined by a famous cast of colleagues – among them, over the years, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Wilco, Counting Crows, Emmylou Harris, the Who, Pearl Jam and Sarah McLachlan.

This year’s lineup includes Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Queens of the Stone Age, Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, Jack Johnson, Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, Fun, Heart, and Jenny Lewis.

    Thanks Lefty.
Glad to see the show will take place in Toronto at Massey Hall (great historic venue) 2,700 capacity-seen Lu there twice-last time with the “Perfessor”.Would be great also to see Diana Krall (Elvis Costello) on stage with Neil.
Last time I sorta saw Neil was at the Air Canada Centre hockey arena with 20,000 capacity and it cost me approx. $125. to sit way back in the bleachers.
This time at Massey Hall, being a fundraiser tickets range from $95. to $250. This maybe a bit pricey for my retirement pension.

Excellent speech! Thanks for posting, tony.

“I know almost everybody here. If I don’t know you, I thought I did when I saw you.” — this could/should be lyrics from a NEIL! song… 😆

I wonder what the impact will be on the Bridge School concerts? ❓

I was wondering the same thing.

Pegi’s band has been scratched from the Farm Aid line-up.

Like a lot of people, I am wondering the same thing.
Seems difficult to imagine the Bridge School benefit concert without either of them. Last time there, Pegi came out and sang “Side of the Road” with Lu, calling it her favorite Lucinda song…

Hopefully, they find a way to work together for the concerts, as it truly is a great thing they do.

Neil’s new album “Storytone” is out on November 4th.
But in the meantime courtesy of CBC Radio you can stream the entire album.
    Lots of full orchestra effects.
