Dylanesque indeed. I’ll be kicking my heels during the six o’clock hour tonight at the nearby Sheraton bar, if anyone wants to plot entrance-rush strategy for War Memorial Auditorium–with an extra ticket in tow. And for the record, that extra ticket says “Gen. Adm. S _ _ _ _ _ _ _. . . .”
October 17, 2008 at 2:43 pm #37658tntracyParticipantWOO HOO!!! WE’RE COMING TO NASHVILLE, BABY!!!!
After seeing last night that the show was not sold out in the other “Seating” thread, I just couldn’t stand it! So, I talked to Sarah, we really can’t afford it, but we have hotel points & that’ll help, so we decided to come. Just ordered my tickets & I’m about to leave to take the dogs to boarding, then we hit the road!!!
Stoger, we’ll be looking for you in the bar at the Sheraton. We are either staying at a Courtyard or at a Homewood Suites. I’m 6′, 250, glasses and gray hair. Sarah is the good-looking one… 😉
I’m PUMPED!

Not if I can help it!
We’re here – just checked in to the Courtyard 4 blocks from the auditorium. Time to head over to the Sheraton & see what stoger’s up to… 😉

October 18, 2008 at 6:51 am #37664tntracyParticipantWe just got back to the hotel after seeing the show, then cruising the “strip” here in Nashville & eating some very late dinner.
I started to take notes regarding the set list at the beginning, but I decided early on to screw the notes and just enjoy the show, so, sorry, but someone else will have to post the set list. 😳 We did absolutely enjoy meeting stoger, paul_from_losangeles & DavidK. DavidK, Sarah & I had front row seats and we all saw a great set from both Buick 6 & Lu. A good night was had by all… 😀 I’ll leave it to others to supply the set list details, etc., but suffice it to say that Sarah & I were very, very happy to be here in Nashville tonight.

(Edit: Had the wrong David – sorry DavidK! 😳 )

20. It’s A Long Way To The TopOctober 18, 2008 at 5:38 pm #37666stogerParticipantYes, the setlist is accurate–though the first seventeen songs were one continuous set, followed by the three-song encore. I too enjoyed seeing Tom and Sarah, one of the Davids, and Paul again. Here are a few tidbits: There was a cough/restart during “Tears of Joy,” Lu later saying she gets nervous in Nashville (“the third coast”), a la NYC and LA. I don’t believe TN Tracy would mind a bit if I pointed out he was the lone dancer during “Jailhouse Tears,” contributing to Lu eventually inviting everyone up on our feet between “Essence” and “Bleeding Fingers.” She voiced a “suggestion” to the venue at that point that a standing area be created in future, apparently oblivious to all the seating/standing questions some of us had. I talked to a woman who had seen Ryan Adams at this venue, no chairs on floor. Apparently the whole event last night morphed into GA seating, balcony and floor. Anyway, the Lonesome Strangers got a shout-out prior to “Can’t Let Go,” and while Randy Weeks was not present, Lorne (sp.?) was (last name I’ve forgotten, Ball maybe). “Lonely Girls” was a request, and “I Just Wanted to. . .” was not on the original setlist, even as an alternate. “Side of the Road” and “Rarity” were on it, got bumped for time. And Lu made it official, endorsing Obama just prior to “Righteously.” She said she hadn’t earlier on tour because she “didn’t want to cause a riot.” Lu in ’08 buttons were available free at merch booth. And Nick is back as guitar tech temporarily, Gil having been summoned to South Korea for Yo La Tango’s tour.
October 18, 2008 at 6:43 pm #37667AnonymousInactiveI fixed the problem with the setlist.
October 18, 2008 at 6:53 pm #37668Inside JobParticipantStoge– Actually “I Just Wanted To See You So Bad” was supposed to be on the setlist but was inadvertently left off the typed list and I noticed it about 3 songs in.

No, stoger, I don’t mind at all. While I know full well I can’t dance a lick, put a couple beers in me & I lose all pride and let loose. 😳 I just got antsy, too, I reckon. I mean, by the time Lu & the band got to “Jailhouse Tears” (one of my very favorites), I turned to Sarah & said, “I can’t stand it – I gotta get up”, half expecting others to join in. There was all that empty space between the front row where Sarah, David & I were sitting & the stage & the stage was high enough, I figured I wouldn’t be blocking anyone’s view. Anyway, after a few moments when i was still out there all by my lonesome it was kinda like, “OK, I’ve jumped into this lake, now I gotta swim” – so I stuck it out (and, I gotta admit, I had fun!). But then, after the song & the ensuing applause began to die down, I heard this young guy sitting on the front row two seats to my right say, “Hey, I can’t see!” Seeing as I was far from starting a trend, I didn’t want to be a butt, so I sat down.
Now, honestly, at that point I started to get bummed a little bit. I mean, I love Lu’s music (obviously), and it makes me want to get up and hoot ‘n’ holler & really get into it. And I know that Lu & the boys get off on that – hell, so would I if I was up there playing & singing my heart out. But the crowd just seemed so subdued – yeah they clapped & even hollered at times, but no one was acting like they were at a concert, IMHO. I mean, they just sat there! So, I just sat there too & listened to the music & tried to mellow out.
Then, after “Essence”, when Lu asked, “Is there something wrong with y’all – you’re just kinda sitting there” (or words to that effect), that was the invitation the crowd needed to party!!! I got up w/ Sarah right behind, following by what seemed like everyone else seated on the floor. Lu & the band kicked into “Real Live Bleeding Fingers…” and it was AWESOME! Everybody ROCKED! I swear, it was like a different show after that. Lu even mentioned several times afterwards that was what she & the band liked. So, in the end, it was an awesome time – Sarah & I were right up on the edge of the stage at Lu’s feet where we wanted to be all along.
Anyway, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it… 😉
Thanks for the set list, tonyg2756. And for your comments, stoger – it was nice seeing you & Paul & David last night. Sarah & I really enjoyed it & are already looking forward to next time!
