Taken out of context, RDM, my statement is diluted… But I do appreciate your negativity while further reflecting the idea that “All this stuff certainly speaks volumes about today’s American psychological processes at the very least…” Glad my post struck a cord for you!

It hurts when someone holds up a mirror doesn’t it?

Sorry to say, not at all–especially on a message board from a person who uses a fantasy name. This is not reality–this is the Internet. As I have said, it’s more akin to Dungeons and Dragons and World of Warcraft versus a place where an individual could discover opportunties for personal growth. Once again, sorry; I hope this doesn’t disappoint you and your metaphorical mirror…

I hesitate to add another post to this discussion because I’m still squeamish about speculations of this kind, but without minimizing the disease of alcoholism nor stating categorically that Lucinda does not have a problem (I can’t even come close to a statement like that, given that I’ve never even met her), I can’t help thinking that it’s pretty hard to judge whether or not a person has a substance abuse problem having only had limited contact with them.

Every year, I go on vacation with my girlfriend and her family for a week. We get a cabin in the woods and do a fair amount of drinking. If someone met me that week and knew nothing else about me (and assumed that my behavior during that week was customary for me), they’d see me drinking throughout most afternoons and evenings, and they’d also see me drunk more nights than not. I could see where someone would think I have a drinking problem if that’s all they knew of me; I’m pretty sure I don’t based on how much I drink the rest of the year (most days, not at all, and many of the days I do drink I have a drink or two) and how I respond to alcohol (sure, I like getting drunk every now and then, but I’ve never needed to). I’m not saying that no one on this forum knows Lu any better than they’d know me in this example, mind you, but this whole conversation makes me think of the comparison.

A good post Stu. I am with you 100%.

By way of analogy, even if Lu drinks most nights when she is touring – so what? Who is to say that she carries that over into her life off the road? And who knows whether she keeps on drinking until she collapses on those nights, or just stops when she has had enough? (A true alkie only stops when there is no bottle available or they pass out – is anyone claiming that Lu is in this kind of state?)

I kept out of this thread for a long while because it was just a spate of opposite opinions battering against each other – I than tried to point out that arguing from opposite, subjective points of view was pointless – but when it came down to speculation about Lu’s ‘drinking problems’ based upon a handful of sightings of her less than sober! I mean, lets have a bit of perspective here people! if you met me at 11:00pm on any Saturday night, you would have reason to think the same of me – but meet me at the same time on a Tuesday and you would find me completely sober and none the worse for it.

PB has drink issues of his own which he has overcome (and for which he deserves our praise) but sadly, this obviously leads him to view every happy drunk as someone in the same state as he used to inhabit – this is simply not the case – the vast majority of casual drinkers NEVER become problem drinkers or alcoholics.

Or is just the drink talking? hic!
