The setlist for the Mountain Winery was identical to the San Diego setlist, except that #16 was played as announced for “I Live My Life”. The audience was both attentive and lively, and their enthusiasm was matched by Lucinda and the band, with a very upbeat and enjoyable show. The evening was quite warm for the San Jose area, temperature starting in the 90’s, falling into the 80’s, but the humidity was quite low, making a good night for enjoying the local wines and the fine music.

19 It’s a Long Way to the Top. . . .August 28, 2008 at 10:00 pm #37003PeterweetsParticipantI proposed to my girlfriend at this show! She said yes!
We had dinner at the Mountain Winery terrace, and while Buick 6 was on stage, and while we were having dessert, I popped the question and busted out the diamond ring.
Then we got to go to our seats and watch Lucinda & CO. just rock the house. Very memorable night!

August 28, 2008 at 10:44 pm #37005stogerParticipantMany happy returns as regards the marriage, PSweets–I envision the strains of the Neil Young cover in the background the moment you actually popped the question, and hope yours is a Cinammon Girl for the rest of your life.
Thanks, Lefty: as Paul pointed out, it was a pretty easy task to transpose and repaste the San Diego list for Saratoga night. I damn near hollered out “Overtime” at a certain point just to see if we couldn’t have 100% identical setlists, but restrained myself.
“Disgusted” is a Li’l Son Jackson tune.
It’s hot as hell in southern Oregon. I’ll try to post.

The best of luck to you both.

Y’know, you could come east to beautiful Rochester, NY (aka “Ra-cha-cha”) and have your wedding before/during/after Lucinda’s Oct 12 show!

August 29, 2008 at 2:49 pm #37010j3browParticipantI was fortunate enough to have been in San Francisco this past week. Sure glad I checked Lucinda’s tour schedule and was able to score a pair of FRONT ROW seats.
This was my 5th and best Lu show. As she said numerous times, the sound was awesome. At the front of the stage there was a subtle reverberation echo from the back wall of the ampitheater which created a wonderful sense of space and presence to the sound. I did notice however the quality of the sound dropped significantly about half way back near the sound board.
I took a picture of the setlist taped to the floor of the stage. She deviated from it in regards to the encore only. She dropped ‘Overtime’ and ‘Hard Time Killing Floor’ replacing with ‘I Live My Life’ and ‘Its A Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock n Roll)’. The ACDC cover floored me! I had no idea she had recorded this track for her upcoming album.
This was the first time i had heard the latest incarnation of her supporting band. Of course, Pettibone was great as usual. The other guitarist (Chet?) was out of this world. Of course, i was seated directly in front of his stack so his guitar overpowered Doug’s from my vantage point. The dual guitar interplay was a site to behold (and hear!). I cant wait to find the time to listen to the 5 disc LA set i picked up which apparently was recorded with this same lineup.
The venue was an ideal setting for a Lucinda show. Temp was perfect (at least for me, but then again Im from South Louisiana and didnt find it remotely warm). For those of you that live in the area, Im very jealous. Sounds like there are a number of great shows coming to the Mountain Winery. Enjoy!

August 29, 2008 at 8:55 pm #37011PeterweetsParticipantThanks to everyone who said such nice things…I’ve been a big Lucinda fan for years, at least since Car Wheels, and Petty’s version of “Change the Locks” and Emmylou/Neil’s “Sweet Old World”. First shows were seeing her open for Dylan in 1998 and Petty in 1999 at the Fillmore.
I took my girlfriend…er, fiance…to see Lucinda at the Oakland Art and Soul Fest last year (I had also been to the Paramount Theatre show earlier that year), and she was appropriately blown away.
I wanted to include a concert in the whole proposal thing and the only other performer who would have been just as perfect would have been John Prine…who doesn’t seem to be playing in Northern CA this fall.
I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night than the Mountain Winery show, so I’m thrilled it worked as well as it did. The sound in that place is just off the hook…the new material is great, Buick 6 kicks ass, and it was tons of fun to hear “Long Way To The Top” at the end…I had been reading about how great the version was, but heard it live for the first time.
Anyway, thanks again!
