20 It’s a Long Way to the Top [pretty much all standing]This will supplement the thoughts posted earlier. In many ways Lu treated this as a tour finale, which it was for the likes of Paul and me–hope some folks will post reactions to the Cambridge show. Certain managerial arm-twistings almost bade me figure out the Sabbath trains and go, despite an early Heathrow call Monday morn, but not this time. This set should start within the hour.
The novel concept of “Interval Drinks” amused me at the Perth show, billed as “Southern Fried Weekend.” (Mary Gauthier and Jason Ringenberg sold out the smaller venue across the way, late-nite start). Anyway, a patron paid her/his money and was given a numbered drink ticket–presumably so the bars wouldn’t be flooded between Buick 6 and Lu. But it seemed to operate very much upon the honour system, as I sallied up to the unstaffed table for mine, found the perfect match between the number and the type of beverage requested–but could have made off like a bandit with any number of remaining drinks. But I didn’t of course. Curiously, certain bars seemed to be taking orders and serving on the spot, in addition to this interval service. And I must say the black-clad concessionairesses looked mighty fine up in the North country–with or without the cowboy hat all seemed to have been issued.
So I’ll let that stand, along with comments in the other Perth stream. It’s been a fine run; thanks to all, Lucinda and her extended musical family. Paul, you board a delayed train too?

August 2, 2009 at 9:34 pm #40420LafayetteParticipantThanks so much, stoger, for your impeccable reporting, our eyes and ears of this summer’s tour abroad. Of course, thanks to all the enthusiastic posters that also contributed. Lefty’s international plea was fulfilled.
Safe travels to all.

August 3, 2009 at 7:27 am #40422bigsubiParticipantI would add to the gratitude Stoger and poured on from here to wish you a happy trip back to USA.
A pleasure to know you and hope to see you again somewhere in the world with Lucinda and Tom in a bar and a glass of wine in hand.
Hasta pronto amigo!!! 😀 😀 😀August 3, 2009 at 12:36 pm #40423paul_from_losangelesParticipantThanks for the good reports. Stoger, I took the 11:05 Perth to Glasgow (change trains) to London. Just a small delay for faulty signals near Carlisle. Have a good trip home. I’m waiting at Heathrow now for my flight to LA.

My only complaint was the crowd who were content to just sit and occasionally clap politely was shamefull and disrespectfull to an amazing bunch of musicians. Good on the two guys who stood up duing ‘Honey Bee’ and tried to get everyone going. Maybe next time the venue would be better without seating. That said it must rank as one of the best shows I have ever seen.
August 4, 2009 at 11:07 am #40425stogerParticipantYes, Paul, the pound for ten minutes Heathrow internet terminals are handy. And Bigsubi, pleasure meeting you too: bon nit Barcelona, if I have that right.
