We were were really looking forward to getting to Montreal and playing the legendary Montreal Jazz Festival. After a very long early morning border crossing- note to self: do not cross border on holiday weekends when the terrorism alert was “heightened”. We were also looking forward to having a night off there as Montreal is a fantastic city and Lucinda has only played there once and we were in and out fairly quickly. Needless to say we were not disappointed, but it was not quite what we expected. We didn’t realize that the MJF had now become a cross between Mardi Gras and South by Southwest. That was a bit of a surprise but it made for a fun night off. With the bus parked right in the thick of it it was a little tricky finding a restaurant that would even take seating. With a great stroke of luck we found one the top 3 or 4 Indian restaurants we had ever been at and then made our way thru the crowed streets with a flying beer can narrowly missing Lu-we managed to find a great english pub on a side street a little bit away from the craziness.
As mentioned above Lu had only been to Montreal once before so it was one of those shows where you have a little extra energy to be “on”. An absolutely beautiful sounding theatre made for an impeccable show -and the audience seemed very attentive throughout and then gave a great ovation at the end. When all was said and done it seemed like a show where Lucinda had made some new fans. Certainly hope so -would love to go back to Montreal again.
