24 AngelNo one told me that downtown Mesa had only one place with a liquor license, though banks and car dealerships seemed legion. Upon finding out I was there for the show, the bartender immediately said he’d heard merch was being discounted. Then the co-owner chimed in to ask me whether one could purchase merch without having a ticket. All this was softball-throwing to me, so that the name “Susannah” naturally crossed my lips–before I had even entered the venue.
Sorry to hear the other poster didn’t get a discount; that would “sour” me too. In slight defense of them, Susannah and her helper for the evening were swamped. I heard her command folks to form a straight line during intermission, but the table was hopping even during parts of Buick 6’s set, and probably after the show too. The procedure seems to be (1) the underling issues the discount ticket; (2) Susannah rings the customer up accordingly. At least they did some volume.
I agree the acoustics were good and Lu was happy. Not sure what other venues might be in Mesa, AZ for comparative purposes, but it’s nice to have a sitdown venue in the loop now and again.

Yes, I thought of it hours later, #10 I think actually, squeezed in between the two songs from SOW–not quite as bare of an acoustic interlude as Tucson, but glorious all the same. Glad you enjoyed both Arizona shows.
