I am really excited to be road tripping to the Macon show, in addition to Asheville. 😀

Just got home at 3:15 AM after the show – only to let my dogs out in the backyard and have them kill a big ol’ possum. *sigh* At least, I think he’s dead – I just checked again, and he is still there. We’ll see in the morning whether or not he was “playin’ possum”… 😛

Aside from my chasing the dogs around the backyard at 3:15 in the morning, running interference for the possum, and trying not to wake the whole freakin’ neighborhood in the process, tonight was awesome. And, since I am now too riled up & sweaty to go to sleep, I might as well share some of it with y’all… 😉

First of all, tonight marked the reunion (finally) of, as we were once coined by bigsubi years ago, “The Four Horsemen:” stoger, West Words, Lafayette & yours truly. That alone made the evening monumental in my book – we were trying to remember the last time we were all together at a show, and we think it has been over 3 years; Lafayette promised to research it & find out for sure. At any rate, it was so, so wonderful to be standing side-by-side with all these dear friends front and center once again. You guys rock and are true compadres in every sense of the word…

I will leave the set list details to stoger, as I did not take notes. However, I can rattle off much of what Lu & The Boys played: They opened with “Can’t Let Go.” Also performed, in no particular order, were “Car Wheels On A Gravel Road”, “Drunken Angel”, “Crescent City”, “Something About What Happens When We Talk”, “Changed The Locks”, “2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten”, “Blessed”, and, despite the setlist listing 4 of the new songs as two pairs of alternates, Lu said from the stage that she wanted to play more of the new material for us, so they performed all four: “Foolishness”, “Nothing But The Truth”, “Something Wicked This Way Comes”, and “Burning Bridges” – I was thrilled to hear all three of my favorites (so far) of the new material.

Also performed, much to my joy and, completing my “Lu Week Trifecta,” was “Bus To Baton Rouge.” ❗ ❗ ❗ Also, “Essence”, “Joy”, “Cross To Bear” (nod to hometown favorites The Allman Bros. Band) and “Atonement” ❗ ❗ ❗ The encore consisted of “Magnolia” & “Get Right With God,” which was the show closer.

There were others – as I said, stoger will hopefully bail me out with the complete setlist, in proper order, in the AM.

The room sounded great, the crowd was enthusiastic and the band was smokin’. All in all, one of the better Lu performances I have been “Blessed” to witness, and a night I will never forget, possum and all… 😉

Love the side stories in your reports, tnt.
Sounds like a great time in Macon.

Since Lafayette is probably still on the road back to Ohio, I believe the last time “The Four Horsemen” met was at the Ryman in October, 2011 for Lu’s lifetime achievement award.
Maybe some day I’ll join the group as I have already had the pleasure of meeting stoger and Lafayette.

Did you give the possum a proper burial ? 😆

First, tnt, it’s wonderful to see you posting once again in the FF forum. Last night was one for the books. INCREDIBLE set list, and the horsemen reunited. JOY!

Second, lwj, your memory astounds me. No, it really does. I had told Tom last night I was almost certain our last show together as the Four Horsemen was in Cleveland where Lu co headlined with Amos. I forgot about the AMA award show and showcases.

Technically, our last concert was July 16, 2011 in Cleveland.

The AMA’s were on Oct. 13, 2011. Call it how you see it, tnt. Show or last time we were together?

More on my weekend when time allows. A nine hour drive home with 4 short stops. I left Macon at noon and pulled in at 9:09 p.m.

These women are bad @ss enough, we shouldn’t sanitize it. Keep the integrity of the Four Horsemen reference 🙂 I think Lucinda would want it that way, IMHO. Vivian

Thanks, LWJ. 🙂 No, we placed his body on the other side of the fence out back in a little clearing and out of reach of the dogs. Today, the turkey vultures found it, and they are feeding off of it, so at least some good came of the whole sordid affair. The circle of life, and all that… 🙁

Still basking in the afterglow of the three superb shows Sarah & I saw last week here in Georgia. Between them and the other commitments I had this past weekend with the dog rescue for which I volunteer and foster, it took me two full days and about 24 hours of sleep to recover. 😳 Like I commented immediately after “It’s Not My Cross To Bear”, or maybe “Atonement”, in Macon while front & center against the stage, “I’m getting too damn old for this stuff!” (Funny story there – after the show, I made the same comment while collapsing in a comfy sofa back stage. Tom O. overheard me, and said, “Yeah, when you said that during the show, Lu’s mike picked it up & I heard it…” LOL!!! 😆 😆 😆 )

Random searching for Lu stuff brought me to a great picture of the Four Horsemen + Lucinda in Macon.
Since it’s on a Twitter page connected with FF member Lafayette I’ll let her have the pleasure of linking the pic for all to see here.

Or not. A couple of us are a bit camera-shy. Oh heck, it’s ok with me if it’s ok with Horse[wo]man westwords.
