From what I remember, John Jackson was her guitar slinger back in the Car Wheels days, along with Kenny Vaughn. Then, during Essence, she had Bo Ramsey in the live band, and had just pared down to one guitar player. I may be wrong, but that’s the way my memory is serving me at 1:30 a.m. 😀 As far as the rest of the personnel, I’m more hazy, but I can remember briefly speaking to John Jackson after seeing her live in Birmingham the second time, which was when she was promoting CWOAGR, and he was very sweet. I’ll bet someone else will be able to fill in the gaps for you.

Taras Prodaniuk: Bass guitar
Jimmy Christie: Drums, percussionThis band was one of the best bands I’ve ever heard in my life. The rythym section was astonishing!

lu live reminds me alot of REM, she takes songs that dont seem that heavy or something on LP and live the songs take on deeper signifigance or meaning.
nuance or somethinng like it….
thnx TimAugust 13, 2007 at 3:36 pm #33041DavidKParticipantI’ve seen Lu a number of times, from 1998 thru present (though I’ve yet to see her with the current lineup)…
Car Wheels era: I saw her at HoB in New Orleans, shortly after the release of the record. It was Kenny Vaughn and Bo Ramsey on guitar. I believe John Jackson replaced Bo for a while on that tour, then they switched out again later. The rest of the lineup was (probably) the one from the ACL performance.
Essence era: I saw Lu at Gruene Hall during the pre-release tour. It was Bo and David Steele (then on loan from Steve Earle’s Dukes) on guitars, plus Don Heffington on drums, Taras on bass. Later, I saw her with Bo and Doug Pettibone on guitar, Taras on bass and Jim Christie on drums. I believe at that point, she still had a keyboard player (Michael Ramos maybe?). On one final date on that tour, it was Doug, Taras and Jim only, solidifying the lineup that she’d have for some time.
As we all know, that was one helluva band. Still, I can’t wait to hear the new lineup (in LA!!).
