‘jackson’!July 15, 2009 at 2:38 am #40037TowandaParticipantHiya,
It’s so late that I’m afraid of looking at my clock … 4:23 am. Not bad.
Tonite my experience at my second Lucinda Williams has been so smashing, so great that it is hard to believe it. If the concert in the two years ago concert in London was a fantastic experience, this second one is exceptional.By the time Lucinda Williams spoke in Spanish, she had the public in her pocket. Literally speaking. I also think that the audience from Bilbao had Lucinda Williams in their pocket from the very beginning. The expectation was so high. The willing of seeing a good concert was so evident that once Lucinda noticed it and smiled, the magic linked and never faded in the whole concert.
A concert that lasted over two hours and was very, very intense.
Here is the list of the songs that have been heard tonite:
I Just Wanted To See Ya So Bad
Can’t Let Go
Well Well Well
I Lost It
Concrete & Barbed Wire
Tears Of JoySide Of The Road
Blue
Fruits Of LaborDrunken Angel
Pineola
Little Rock Star
Out Of Touch
Changed The Locks
Come On
Bleeding Fingers
Essence
Honey Bee
Joy
Rightelously
Long WayMarching The Hate
Angel by Jimmy HendrixLucinda was wearing a T-shirt with a big heart, a stylish short jacket, blue jeans and sport shoes like all star converse with two colour stripes on each side of the white rubber.
As you may see. Very complete.
All I can say is Thank You to all the wonderful people I have met tonite. Thank You to Stoger, Thank You to Stoger’s friend, to Eric and to Tom whose help has been brilliant.

Tomorrow Cartagena and then I started my particularly Lucinda Spanish Tour over Zaragoza, Madrid and Barcelona.
I hope to live same sensations like you this weekend!
And also it will be great to know the humble Tennessee boy, Mr.Stoger and his friends! 😉Sleep well!

July 15, 2009 at 8:17 am #40039stogerParticipantPerfect setlist Towanda: couldn´t have captured it better myself. Yes, it was great meeting Towanda and Julio after the show, though “blueboy” and “swampdog” remain unknown to me (and who knows which other compound-word megafans). As for my friend Trina, great company for a great show, but I´ll be traveling alone from here on out, none (singular or plural) for bigsubi to meet–just a plain old humble Tennessee boy out on his lonesome. I look forward.
As Towanda noted, Lucinda spoke some Spanish from the stage (and also acknowledged the distinction between that and the Basque tongue) late in the set, further endearing her to fans. Swampdog´s sign must have worked to get song seven, and “Tears of Joy” featured a slightly different arrangement highlighted by increased background vocals by Chet and David. Other than that, the songs came fast and furious, spot-on, little talk between. I defer to Towanda´s enthusiasm: reread her comments.
And now for some museum-hopping prior to heading south/southeast. . .

I understand fully. “SOTR” is not as emotional for me, however – I just love the sentiment and how eloquently Lu expresses it (and what a great melody!). A MUCH more poetic “Hold On Loosely”, if you will (now, who would have thought a 38 Special reference would ever make its way into a discussion of Lu’s music! 😯 ). It is just such a great view on relationships – letting go a little to let your “significant other” be by themselves sometimes is a very healthy approach, IMHO.
Now, as for tear-jerkers, I’m a sucker for “Lake Charles”, “Those Three Days” & “Greenville”, especially the first. “Lake Charles” never fails to choke me up! 😥

July 16, 2009 at 2:52 pm #40028blueboyParticipantamazing night. I had Lucinda really close to me when she arrived to Kafe Antzokia, sunglasses on, and a bit of an angry face. My friend and I didn´t say a word as she entered the place. We had the chance to be the first in line, so we had front row.
The show was great, beautifully played, and great voice. The band sounded really cool specially on the slow numbers. “It´s a long way to the top” sounded kind of a mess to me. I could play Chet Lyster´s guitar strings for about 5 seconds, and we had a laugh… Seemed to be a nice guy.
Nice to meet Towanda, I will upload the Berlin 2003 show as soon as possible for you.
On saturday I will see Lu&the band again in Madrid. -
