At last! Lucinda Williams is playing in Bilbao! 😀
You cannot imagine how happy I am that Lucinda Williams is coming to my city …
Lucinda Williams has meant an awful lot to me personally. Actually, I think her music has changed my life. I cannot categorize whether rightly, wrongly or what because life changes and takes different paths.
Two years I go, I made a trip around The States and visited cities that had something to do with Lucinda Williams’ music. Cities like Lafayette, Austin, Lake Charles, New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, Nashville, Memphis, … I think that Lucinda Williams has moved around so much and lived so intensely that these places must have a meaning to her very deeply as her own life is attached to them.
Then, Lucinda played in London (2007 fall) and I went to see her wonderful concert that Monday evening. Since then, my life has taken a new turn and have started all over again. It means a lot to me going to this new concert because I need to know the effect that Lucinda makes in me. How will I react listening to her music once again.
Being a media woman myself, I would like to back her show in my city as much as possible. I have shortened a trip to be there, next Tuesday 14th July, at the concert.
You will have my entire support that night. Count on me.

June 26, 2009 at 11:45 am #40047TowandaParticipantThank You!
Although I know that this show won’t be better than the one in London which was extraordinary.
For personal reasons, this show in my city will mean a lot to me. It will be like finding the new me finally.
There are posters of Lucinda Williams Spanish Tour where I live which is not in Bilbao itself but nearby. The campaign now will have to be followed with listening to her music. I will try to help it from my side through the media I collaborate with. It is important that the people know her music.
Can you believe that I talked to people in Lafayette and in Austin, TX at the famous Threadgills joints (there are two of them at old Gas Stations) and had to explain them who and why Lucinda Williams was so important to be there (Austin’s Threadgills)

Lucinda’s manager Tom Overby reads this Forum, and comments about backing the show and offering publicity do not go unnoticed by him. It’s good to know posters are adorning the streets and walls in and around Bilbao. I’m sure the tour as a whole appreciates your role as “media woman” and your practical efforts–but also the way in which Lucinda has changed or reflected your identity through the years. You’re in for a treat on the 14th.
June 27, 2009 at 11:18 pm #40049TowandaParticipantThank You, Stoger.
I really appreciate your encouraging words.
I think the posters campaign is being very good. Everytime I pass by some of them, I’m trying not to take it with me. They are so cute! When I went to Austin a couple of years ago, I could not resist the temptation to take one from a wall of Ryan Adam’s “Easy Tiger” as he was playing at The Paramount a couple of days after I left. 🙄
The media should be more in it though. Will Lucinda give a Press Conference? I would not mind to moderate it and to get the Press Conference Room free. Also a free visit to the Guggenheim Museum … Bilbao will be at your feet, Lucinda Williams!

June 30, 2009 at 11:21 pm #40050TowandaParticipantToday, I have been for a walk around the area where I live and have discovered that the L.W. posters are gone. I must confess that I did try to get one last night (very, very late) and could not find any. So, I came back and could find one at a Driving School next to the door. I saw it and came back five minutes later. I asked the Driving Teacher if he could reserve it and he said to me”You can take it now if you want” So, I did. I have tried to iron it a bit but the steam has marked it a little bit in the middle with rounded spots. I nearly die. I’m keeping it on a shelf and will take it to the concert. I love the orange colours.
I think that the “Heart of Gold Spain” should make another round with L.W. posters.
Tickets are also available at Fnac, Bilbao. You get an original ticket with a silver band which will be a nice souvenir to remember the occasion.
I love the poster with Lucinda’s songs on the back. I think the image is modern and mixes traditional with Lucinda’s looks wearing her Cowgirl hat on.
I will wear the hat I bought in San Antonio, TX too. Yes. I will.

June 30, 2009 at 11:30 pm #40051TowandaParticipantBy the way, I want to let you know that if the band wishes to have dinner after the concert, I can advise a few places and also help with the reservations.
Spain is different with food timetables. Forget about UK or France’s traditions. Spain is something else.
Breakfast. You can have breakfast until 1 pm in cafes and bars. Coffee with croissant or any kind of cake and starting pretty soon the famous tapas (Spanish omelette is awesome in the middle of the morning as they cook them constantly)
Lunch: From 1 to 3 pm. Our lunches are bigger than yours. For many people is the main meal of the day. Please, have this in mind. There are hundreds of places where you can have “Menu del Dia”. Something that in France is called the “Plat du Jour” but here there are two main dishes, dessert, wine or water and sometimes coffee is included. Price starts with 10 Euros for this Menu.
Dinner: From 9 to 11 or Midnight. But, you can always make a reservation and they can wait for the band to end the concert.
In Bilbao, we do not drink so much sangria. Beer, wine and … kalimotxo (pronounced kaeleemocho) 🙄 which is red wine with coke. Served fresh.
I hope this info may be of any help.

July 14, 2009 at 2:47 pm #40029TowandaParticipantTonite is the night … OMG! I cannot believe it. Lucinda Williams is already in my city, Bilbao.
The weather was beautiful in the morning and is getting more clouds as the day goes on. The temperature is still high enough for us here. I guess for Lucinda and the rest of the gang, the temperature will still be agreeable for them. The tickets are ALL SOLD OUT. Of course. Who was doubting it? Not me. This mouth to mouth news work incredible.Lucinda Williams will be very, very welcome. Lucinda is expected anxiously by an amount of people who appreciate music as good as hers.
But, where is Lucinda Williams now? At this hour, at this minute, … No matter where she’s is relaxing for tonight, I know that she will give everything as she usually does.
I will be here after the concert.

July 14, 2009 at 3:19 pm #40031LeftyParticipantFantasy moment: How cool would it be if Ms. Williams tonight covered Dylan’s “Boots of Spanish Leather” ?

8)Phew (wipes brow.) I read “fantasy moment” and was very happy to read you are pining for a Dylan cover and not the cheerleader with pom poms dressed in burnt orange, eerily resembling a member we will not mention. 😯
Has Lu ever covered a Dylan tune?

Glad you are excited, Towanda. I can´t vouch for where Lucinda Williams is at this moment (some three hours before ticket time), but I can vouch that the crew never looked better a few hours ago, at the venue itself. The Kafe Antzokia doubles as a restaurant by day, so I didn´t need a Michelin guide tip for my late lunch choice. . . . There were soundman Kevin, guitar tech Gil, Seth the new monitors guy, etc, pushing and plugging and hammering away. As the restaurant got crowded, a curtain went down and we diners couldn´t see them anymore, but tour manager Eric spied me and said hello just prior. Good omens all round. And since my Basque (erkal?) is no better than my espanol, I call that cancelling out and will just speak English for the duration.
swampdog, “Side of the Road” would bring the house down, don´t be shy as Cat Stevens might say.
Lefty, you´re here vicariously. Maybe a Dylan (Pos. 4th?) but probably no “boots.” And I didn´t mention it in my list of crew members above, but the first one I spotted, working her computer? Note the gender of the pronoun.
Cowboy hat, right Towanda?
July 14, 2009 at 3:52 pm #40034LafayetteParticipantSusannah. Susannah.
Stoger, do you count shows? Are you ready to celebrate some type of jubilee?
What’s for dinner while you wait?
