I hadn’t kept up with the band news and was surprise, and disappointed, to discover Doug missing from Buick 6 at last night’s show (June 10 ’09) in Covington, Ky (Cincinnati). I’d told several guitarist friends they had to get out and experience Pettibone live. Nothing against Chet and Eric. The Buick 6 opener was the most energetic segment of the evening. But others are right: Pettibone is in a class of his own, and he gave Lucinda’s performances the edgy, raw and bluesy energy that takes the audience — and in turn, Lucinda — to different heights. His solos on “Out of Touch,” for example, are stunning. Lucinda was emotionally flat last night. She sang “Righteously” like a ballad, for heaven’s sake. On “Hard Way to the Top,” like many others, she seemed to be just going through the motions…phoning it in. Love her and artistry, but I won’t be rushing out to see her again, not with this show in mind.

Yeah Lucinda not having Doug is like:

    Mick w/o Keeth (sic),
    Jimmy w/o Mr. Plant and
The Boss w/o Steve Van Zandt

Her shows go on and on, but something’s gone…

I saw the show in Greensboro last night and discovered this sad turn of events.

I really thought Doug Pettibone transformed the old songs and brought out new sounds (World Without Tears is still a favorite) that had just been waiting for the right guitarist.

It’s like Bonnie Raitt without Johnny Lee Schell.

All great things come to an end, Steve. I’m just glad it lasted as long as it did. I ate it up while it was happening! Doug is very happy with what he is doing now.

Thanks, Tom, I am sure all of you are having a great time and look forward to tonight’s performance in DE. Hey, any chance Lucinda got the guitar nightlight I made for her earlier this year (gave it a stagehand at the Keswick). Loved the bass in that performance, too!
    Marjie from Bryn Mawr
    – would love Lucinda to sign my Ibanez if she gets to the Opera House early!
