Widely regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of her generation, Lucinda Williams released her 10th studio album, “Blessed,” earlier this year on Lost Highway Records. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter behind such classic albums as “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road” and “World Without Tears” is now based in Los Angeles, although she’s often on the road; find her latest tour dates at www.lucindawilliams.com.
Lucinda’s picks:
•The El Rey (Los Angeles, Calif.)
•Hotel Cafe (Los Angeles, Calif.)
•First Avenue (Minneapolis, Minn.)
•House of Blues (New Orleans, La.)
•The Fillmore (San Francisco, Calif.)
•9:30 Club (Washington, D.C.)
•Turner Hall Ballroom (Milwaukee, Wis.)
•The Orange Peel (Asheville, N.C.)
•The National (Richmond, Va.)
•The Showbox at the Market (Seattle, Wash.)
•Park West (Chicago, Ill.)
•Catalyst Nightclub (Santa Cruz, Calif.)
•Cox Capitol Theatre (Macon, Ga.)September 25, 2011 at 1:37 am #48357LafayetteParticipantI’ve been to three of her favorite venues.
My money is on stoger for all ten.
September 25, 2011 at 1:45 am #48358tonygKeymasterI’m with you. Stoger will knock those off.
I’ve been to the Hotel Cafe many times but I have never seen her perform there. Just the El Rey for me.

See Elvis Costello @ The Ryman tonight. Should be great. MusicloverSeptember 25, 2011 at 10:13 pm #48361stogerParticipant@Lafayette wrote:

Well, ten yes, Lafayette–but I counted 13 total here. No Hotel Cafe, no Showbox Seattle, no Santa Cruz. My money’s on Paul for an even dozen.

September 26, 2011 at 12:34 pm #48363vinylfanParticipantSeems she has announced her favorite rock club.

Uh, I don’t think it’s anything specific to the Calvin, but probably no one should hold breath waiting on Northampton to pop up in any Lu list of past faves or future performing venues. It’s probably done (though I’ve seen her there at Calvin and also outdoors in that town myself).
October 2, 2011 at 6:12 pm #48365Mike_DoranParticipantThree for me, but my (and maybe Lu’s?) all time favorite..even better than my hometown Showbox, was the
House of Blues in New Orleans.Best show…. EVER. (2011)
October 2, 2011 at 6:17 pm #48366Mike_DoranParticipantDidn’t make the list, as it wasn’t maybe amongst the top venues, but as far as venue with the best name??
Gotta be The Whiskey Roadhouse in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Was driving a vehicle across country and designed the trip to catch Lu in a couple venues.
Spoke with her after the show and she said she loved the name and had to play there! It was actually a very fun small honkey tonk feeling joint inside a casino…
October 24, 2011 at 1:56 pm #48367LafayetteParticipantI would bet my last dollar “Track 29” will never make this list.
