I just got through watching this DVD and, wow! What a great show. Especially for the money.

Highlights for me included Gurf’s great guitar work, Lu’s acoustic guitar work on the lead-in to “Disgusted” and “Happy Woman Blues”, Lu’s vocals (of course!) and, last but not least, the harmonica work by John “Juke” Logan. The latter was awesome – he really added a lot to several of the songs (“Disgusted” in particular, “Changed The Locks”, “Happy Woman Blues”, etc.) and left me really wanting to see a harmonica player join Lu and Buick 6 on stage for some future shows.

My favorite song on the disc? Why, “Side of the Road” of course!! 😀 😆 I may not have (yet) see Lu perform this live, but this was the next best thing. I was in awe watching it.

Some technical notes – The only audio options on this DVD are PCM stereo and DTS 5.1 surround sound. No Dolby Digital 5.1. So, for those w/o a DTS decoder in their DVD player or receiver, you will be stuck w/ stereo, although, if I was in that group, I’d still want this DVD. But if you can play DTS audio, the mix was very nice – well-balanced and super clear. It sounded wonderful on my surround sound system.

And finally, needless to say, this is THE DVD for all you fans who love Lu’s pre CWOAGR (in fact, pre-SOW) work. The only song on the DVD from after the self-titled release was “Something About What Happens When We Talk”, which Lu introduced as being on “the new album”.

In fact, IMHO, any Lu fan would love to have this DVD.

Oh yeah, great stuff. I watched about half of it – never seen this broadcast EVER. Anyone clamoring for the classics needs to run out and grab it pronto! Everyone else, too.

This is a must have! Great quality video/audio. The songs are classic, the vocals are prime, and the band is spot on. The whole show is fabulous, but I personally feel that things really start to heat up with Price To Pay>Disgusted. Great harmony vocals during Something About What Happens When We Talk. Kisses and Locks build to a smokin’ Happy Woman Blues. Love Gurf on guitar and backup vocals, but my vote for MVP goes to John “Juke” Logan on harmonica. That guy can BLOW!!! On a side note, you gotta love those 80’s shoulder pads.

I just got this at a record store today (I actually had forgotten it was out!) and it is amazing so far. Lucinda is in top form. Excellent songs and I’m glad to finally have a DVD that focuses solely on them.

It is funny though that you can see some clear frustration in Lucinda’s face during the second chorus of Crescent City. Something that would have gotten an automatic “FUCK!” and restart these days.

I watched it again last night (immediately followed by the ’98 ACL DVD – interesting contrast), and was blown away again. Yeah, “Like A Rose” would have been really nice, but it is still a must have for any Lu fan, IMHO. 😉

It took another week here in Canada to finally arrive today at Best Buy.

I just finished showing this jewel at my neighbors on their new big screen LCD during a great BBQ meal.

Later, I’ll treat them to the 1989 ACL DVD.

Anyway, tntracy and others in this forum have aptly described the DVD including “Juke”‘s harmonica playing from tracks 12 thru 15 One of my favorites was Disgusted.

A second choice was Passionate Kisses although lacking the famous “wrong key” start last year in NYC which to me was priceless.

I note in the DVD case that New West Records and Austin City Limits thank, among many others Tom Overby, Rosemary Carroll, etc. Does this mean “Inside Job” played a big role in getting ACL to finally release this treasure after 19 years? If so, thanks Tom on Lu’s 30th anniversary in the “biz”

I’m a fairly “newbie” to this forum but have been fortunate to see Lu and Buick 6 three times in 08 and twice in 07.

Please return to Canada in 09.

Thanks for a great forum with Management being so involved and as your 08 tour is now ending, have a great rest.

My wife got me this DVD for christmas and I found it in her hiding place but couldn’t wait a month to see it. So late one night I slipped it in the DVD player and watched it. What an awesome show. She looks great and I love all the old songs. I hope she doesn’t notice the wrap is removed.

Just listened to my DVD today. WOW. It sounds really good. “Wild and Blue” is terrific.
I wish they would release this on cd.

It says she has had three ACL appearances. Are they talking about the 1989, 1998 and 2007 appearances?

Must be since those are her only appearances. I love the DVD. She certainly had a different stage demeanor back then. Wonder if Gurf still has that jacket in his closet somewhere.

I thought she did an ACL taping in 1992 for SOW?

That jacket was terrible. I kept looking at it during the dvd. That and the bad outfits in the audience. 😆
