Mediocre??
The only thing mediocre about Lucinda’s performance on Saturday was the weather.
(And being from Seattle,..I even LOVED that)I drove the fifteen hours each way to catch this amazing concert.
It was a tough decision to rationalize, but Lucinda being on the line-up clinched it.
I was more than shocked to read a negative from a mediocre reviewer.I thought she put on an amazing set and would drive the distance again in a heartbeat.
She truly seemed to be having such a good time playing with the other musicians, her energy lifted the whole concert.Loved it!

Can you confirm who the aide was? ๐

Williams followed this up with โBorn to Be Loved,โ which she said would be on her next album, planned for January. Midway through this gentle love song, a gust of wind blew her lyric sheets off their stand, but she recovered nicely by telling Pettibone to improvise while an aide collected the scattered papers.

Take any pics or vids. to share?
Thanks.
lwjOctober 25, 2010 at 11:10 pm #44359Mike_DoranParticipantNot sure who it was who scooped up the papers,(a random stage hand?) but Lucinda did handle it nicely with a little laugh.
I did take some pics and a little video, but to be honest.. I tried (unsuccessfully) to post pics on here before to no avail..( I really need to figure it out and will try again..) but in the meantime here is one of the finale I grabbed from you tube. You can really see the fan in her and the enjoyment of the fellow musicians.

As identified on Doug’s FB page (via “tagging”), from left to right are Stephen Stills, Jackson Browne, Richie Furay, Kris Kristofferson, Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Rick Rosas, Lucinda Williams, Doug Pettibone, Emmylou Harris, Peggy Young.
Quite an impressive group…

October 26, 2010 at 3:21 pm #44361tonygKeymasterLu and Doug are up there with the big kids. I hope we get a report from someone.
October 26, 2010 at 9:32 pm #44362DavidinMaineParticipantYeah, they are up with the big kids… I had a strong preminition when I saw LWs in the 80’s at First Ave along with Gurf Morlix, that this is where she would end up along with other big kids covering her gem-coated songs… It’s so nice to see her in the sandbox with the high schoolers. Elvis Costello and Neil have such pensions for helping to move along a song…

Great comments, David…gem-coated songs.
Really not much has changed from the 1999 Bridge School, she was with the big kids then.
Here is an excerpt from the SF Examiner dated November 1, 1999.Keeping it real at the Bridge benefit
Acoustic music envelops crowd in good vibes
Sunday, October 31, 1999
MOUNTAIN VIEW – The Bridge School benefits might be the last real hootenanny left these days. Because of its all acoustic rule, and because its tone is the picture of relaxed and collaborative, with no fancy sets and stark lighting, it bears more resemblance to the folksy get-downs of the ’50s and ’60s than the giant benefits of the ’90s. I doubt this will ever become the Miller Genuine Draft Bridge School Benefit.
A lot of that is due to its founder and ongoing champion, Neil Young, who has not only been one of the world’s most active collaborators with other musicians over the years, but one of the most avid musician-philanthropists.
The bar was set almost impossibly high right from the start with a stellar set by country-rock goddess Lucinda Williams. With only two other acoustic guitarists to accompany her, Williams never sounded better. And her set really caught fire when she was joined on stage by Emmylou Harris (due to perform at Sunday’s sold-out show) and Young, for a heartbreaking version of “Greenville” and a soaring “Sweet Old World.” With Young supplying harmonica and Harris’ otherworldly harmonies backing Williams’ stout alto, it was lump-in-the-throat time.October 28, 2010 at 12:57 pm #44364LWjettaParticipantFrom the Bridge School Channel, watch the concert highlights in HD.
Lu, Doug P. and Emmylou are in Part 1. starting at 3:10 Greenville.Doesn’t look mediocre at all to me.

p.s. Anybody here know if the musicians donate their performance and expenses like they do for Farm Aid?November 4, 2010 at 12:56 am #44365punchdrunkloveParticipantfor the bootleg enthusiasts, dimeadozen got the audio (not only lucinda). quality is ok.
November 10, 2010 at 3:58 am #44366Mike_DoranParticipantJust got my (much anticipated) latest issue of Rolling Stone.
Much anticipated because I knew they’d review the awesome Bridge School concert that I am still “coming down” from.
Not one word regarding Lucinda’s performance or even attendance.
Extremely disappointed.
I drove 13 hours there and thirteen hours home PRIMARILY because of her being on the bill, and I can’t for the life of me figure out why she doesn’t get the much earned/deserved respect.Their loss.(perhaps of my subscription )
November 10, 2010 at 5:27 pm #44367bobParticipantRolling Stone became irrelevant quite a while ago…a rag for all the cool kids.
November 28, 2010 at 8:12 pm #44368fuji81ParticipantFinally got a chance to hear this show… Lucinda in fine voice, and Doug with some sweet acoustic guitar. Joy, however brief, is a real treat. Love the full band, but Lu and Doug solo acoustic is something special.
June 27, 2013 at 1:18 pm #44369MartinshParticipantI was there ! Disagree with the “mediocre” comment in the original review. Mind I disagree with a lot of other things in the review as well (e.g. Mighty Mouse were unlistenable, Elvis impersonating Gram Parsons with Emmylou should surely rate a mention ?).
I thought Lucinda was pretty good but not outstanding. Was glad she did a couple of songs off Car Wheels.
But my girlfriend was totally blown away ! She didn’t really know anything by Lucinda before, but now is huge fan.
