It’s not a headlining show, but it looks like there is still an opportunity for a little “Lu fix” before the end of the year. Lu is set to appear in Cleveland, OH on Nov. 14th at a Janis Joplin Tribute concert at PlayhouseSquare’s State Theatre. Also scheduled to appear are Bettye LaVette, Country Joe McDonald & Susan Tedeschi, among others. The show is part of “a weeklong American Music Masters salute to Joplin presented by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Case Western Reserve University”.
More info can be found here at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Website.
So, what is it, about a 4 hour drive for you, Lafayette? 😉

Two little tid bits of info re Janis.
1. The covers on the 5 disc El Rey set show Lu wearing a Janis Joplin shirt.
2. Just for fun I typed in Janis joplin on You Tube. Amazing videos, including Woodstock from 1969.

Huh – that’s odd. I have the El Rey CDs & I never noticed that for some reason (probably because I put them on my iPod as soon as I bought them & haven’t really looked at them closely since!).
I know Lu is a big Doors fan, but I wasn’t aware she was a Janis fan, too. Makes sense, though, given her other musical leanings & tastes. I love Ms. Joplin’s music as well – what a set of pipes that lady had!
Thanks for the tip on the YouTube content – I’ll be sure and check it out. Something else I’d recommend highly to Janis fans is the book Love, Janis written by Janis’ sister, Laura. Great read!

October 22, 2009 at 2:02 am #41258LafayetteParticipantH*ll, YEAH! 4 hour drive for me, tnt. Funny, I JUST compared Lu’s voice at the Chicago show as reminding me of Janis Joplin=esque in the Chicago thread I replied to.
I think I can make this show! Thanks for the info tnt. 😀

October 22, 2009 at 4:42 pm #41260LafayetteParticipantI just ordered tix for this show! I invariably called the venue to order as I had questions on seats. I checked online (late last night) and best available was in the loge (upper level) area. Today, I was told the best available was in mezzanine, center, 4th row, that these seats had a good vantage view of entire stage, so I grabbed them. I’m taking my husband on this trip, although he doesn’t know… yet . Interesting, the man taking my order told me he personally saw Janis perform. I thought that was very cool.
Thanks, again, tnt for the tip ! I’ll represent (Lu) in Cleveland.

Tom
P.S. A certain someone might be there to “represent” with you, Lafayette. I think you know whom that might be. Perhaps you should PM him to add to the temptation… 😈

Think our Lu will be wearing this shirt tomorrow night?

November 14, 2009 at 5:47 am #41263LafayetteParticipantGood one lwj! I’m laying odds she will be in black and one item (jacket, pants, etc) will be leather.
November 14, 2009 at 8:52 pm #41264TOverbyParticipantI can answer the question about the Janis shirt with a little backstory. When the photo of Lu wearing the Janis shirt appeared in magazines, the Janis photo was photoshopped out. No one could verify that it was an “authorized official” Janis shirt and as we are in the days when you can sued for looking at someone wrong and the label felt strongly that it needed to be removed. when it came time to design the live cd, and I had the original shot with Janis on the shirt, I decided to be brave/stupid and threw caution to the wind -well I also had five minutes to get them done, so Janis stayed. So anyway I don’t think she will be wearing the shirt tonight. Should be a great show -Lucinda has been given the honor of closing the show.
It’s been great watching her work on the songs she’s going to do. She’s going to be teriffic.November 14, 2009 at 11:17 pm #41265tntracyParticipant@TOverby wrote:

Lafayette was also right. Lu dressed in black last night.
From the following article great to hear about Lu’s new song “Difficult Child”http://www.cleveland.com/popmusic/index.ssf/2009/11/far-flung_admirers_give_janis.html
lwj
p.s.1. Thanks TOverby for your story on the shirt and an up-date on what is in store for 2010
2. Lets see your report on the show Lafayette ( maybe after the Bengals win )November 15, 2009 at 2:50 pm #41267tntracyParticipant“Me & Bobby McGee” *and* the debut of a new song written for the occasion. Nice!
Thanks for posting the link, LWJ.
