Tickets have gone on sale to see Lucinda at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown on Saturday, November 2. It is shown as an outdoor show. All should attend.

September 11, 2013 at 6:20 pm #52180stogerParticipantSaturday? Saturday? May be joining you in the desert, big boy.
September 11, 2013 at 6:25 pm #52181tonygKeymasterDo so Mr. S. Grumpymama is also going. Frenchy too, probably.
September 24, 2013 at 7:32 pm #52182DDinNJParticipantSince the word is “all should attend” a little help is needed. Looks like the best way to get there from Phila area would be to fly into Palm Springs, and drive, about 45 minutes or so?? Better to stay in Palm Springs, or any other suggestions?? Or is there a decent RV park in the area? Looks like this on a road less traveled. Thanks

Ontario airport may be cheaper (Southwest), but Palm Springs is closer, yes. there is actually a motel right behind Pappy’s and Harriett’s, but I can’t vouch for it. Yucca Valley is a town with several motels, 7 or 8 miles away. Of course you could rent room 8 of the Joshua Tree Inn, where Gram died, but that might be a hundred a night, two-night minimum. Think I’ll go on the website and see. . .
[Looks like the “Turtle Room” or bust that particular weekend. . .]
September 24, 2013 at 9:08 pm #52184tonygKeymasterPalm Springs is the closest airport, but you would have to change planes numerous times I think. Ontario less so, but farther away.
The first time I went to P&H I stayed at a hotel in Palm Springs where I had stayed many times before. I misjudged how far it really was especially in the dead of night with total darkness and howling winds ripping sand all over you. The motel behind P&H is all booked up; probably by our musician friends. I will be staying at the Best Western Yucca Valley, the closest and bestest. There is also an America’s something or other just down the highway from the Best Western. The BW is a huge cement blob of a place but the rooms are fine and the price is good.
The Joshua Tree Inn is a dump, in my humble opinion. 8)

P.S. Someone is spreading a rumor that Lu may add another show around the time of the P&H show so you may wanna be flexible and maybe you can catch both shows, as long as you are going to haul ass all the way out here to the Western World.
September 24, 2013 at 10:31 pm #52185DDinNJParticipantThank you. I will check those places out and for the “tip” For me looks like Palm Springs is the best airport. I did drive from Palm Springs to Ontario one night many years ago with 2 less than sober friends in the back seat. Long drive, fun night, even for the designated driver.
September 25, 2013 at 4:54 am #52186GrumpyMamaParticipantI’ve booked a stay in a VRBO rental that sleeps 4 to 8 people for Friday and Saturday night. If any of you need a place to crash, send me a private message and we can discuss the accommodations and logistics.
September 25, 2013 at 12:24 pm #52187DDinNJParticipantExtremely cool of you to offer. Many thanks. I think we have it covered at 29 Palms. Waiting on the green light from the other half of self appointed NJ Chapter. If it is a go, would really like to meet all.
October 11, 2013 at 6:36 pm #52188tonygKeymasterThose of you journeying to Pioneertown for the first time should know that there is close to zero internet coverage in the area so forget about communication with the web while you are out there in the desert. Cell phone coverage is nothing to write home about either. 😆
Also, if you want to eat dinner there before the show you better call and make a reservation now or plan to eat elsewhere. I’m pretty sure the show will be outside so don’t make a reservation during showtime.
October 12, 2013 at 1:08 am #52189stellablueeeParticipantI’ll be at P&H’s (and Northridge too)
I also recommend the Best Western (It’s a 6 mile drive).
It’s also next to their only all night food place (besides Sonic or Denny’s) called Santana’s (only good if you’ve had a few drinks and are desparate I’m afraid)
great deals can be found on VRBO as previously mentioned. My friends stayed in this one last week. It was cute and seemed great, and a bit cheaper (out there for a Gram Parson’s fest)
http://www.vrbo.com/441859and on another note…if anyone in Los Angeles is interested….a little museum is opening tomorrow celebrating the San Fernando Valley and there will be two Nudie mobiles there among other relics…

just my 2 cents 🙂 I’m looking forward to that weekend!
October 12, 2013 at 2:57 am #52190tonygKeymasterAwesome Stella!! 😀
October 29, 2013 at 9:09 pm #52191tonygKeymasterThose attending Saturday’s show should know that it will be held outdoors. While it will be a beautiful day, it will get quite nippy by showtime so bring a jacket. 😉
November 1, 2013 at 7:50 pm #52192LWjettaParticipantLots of interesting tidbits from the Forum on this prior to the show including airports, accommodations, food, the weather and lack of internet, so we should expect some superb reports from the desert.
Should be a good one with Sara Petite opening but who will be on guitar Stuart or Doug ?lwj
November 2, 2013 at 12:22 am #52193JstreetParticipantWe are so stoked to be going to this show. Last saw Lu at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz, town of my youth. We got our tickets a few weeks ago, found a nice inexpensive vacation rental only three or four miles from the venue. Packing up groceries, music instruments, wine etc and will leave out early tomorrow. Early for us is about 9am, haha. Supposed to be about a five hour drive from Paso. Bringing extra layers of warmth for the cold desert night, I hope the musicians fingers hold up. Am beginning to get excited. Did a gig at one of our wineries (Asuncion Ridge) last Sat, and played “Where Is My Love” twice. Diane (the Leisurnaut), wife and percussionist answered that question, but I’d like to hear it posed from the source.
And that’s why I’m Cying Tears Of Joy..
If we chance to meet you, TOverby, we can get you some contact info and local guidance for a possible retreat type wine country weekend/holiday here in Paso Robles. Possibly this winter/spring should you get the chance between recordings and such.
