On the HBO series Treme—about post-Katrina New Orleans—there is a female street musician character who is interacting with Steve Earle—he’s playing a fictional character—and she mentions that she wants to go see Lucinda who is playing at a club the next night in the Quarter, and she really likes the “Car Wheels” album.
I thought it was pretty cool and rather appropriate that Lucinda should get a mention, especially in a NO-based series.
YES, YES! i saw last night the finale from season 1. a friend told me about lucinda being mentioned in advance, but he didn’t inform me that steve earle is in the scene, which is something i praise greatly: is there anything more riveting and fun than these two on “you’re still standing there”? NO!
treme is wonderful, wonderful – every bit as good as the wire.
the season finale catapulted the series, in my estimation, to the stratosphere. Incredibly moving and richly metaphorical, this is one of the greatest hours of television I’ve ever seen. Now,I can’t wait for Season 2.
Last Sunday’s episode (not last night’s, which I haven’t seen yet) featured the band led by the violinist Annie doing a not too great version of Lake Charles. Annie is played by a real life musician named Lucia who is a great violin player, but she cannot sing a note. Why they decided to make her character a singer is beyond me. As most things are. 😉
I love the Annie character and her love for Lucinda on the show. Lucia’s singing never really bothered me until she attempted Lake Charles. That song in particular is sacred territory to me.
