So I was scouting out the venue earlier today and was disappointed to find no marquee emblazoning the words “Buick Six” in neon; in fact, there was no marquee at all. The joint was darkened, though some two dozen Guinness taps were visible from a side window. Just as I was copying the Vicar Theatre motto (see below), one Stuart Mathis strode down the alley at the corner of Vicar and Thomas, instrument on back. Then he and I both began knocking on various side doors for entry, me doing it of course all altruistically, for the good of the guitarist and his impending soundcheck. I could have gotten in but refrained when the employee arrived.
“LISTEN TO YOUR WORDS THEY’LL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO. LISTEN OVER THE RHYTHM THAT’S CONFUSING YOU. LISTEN TO THE REED IN THE SAXOPHONE. LISTEN OVER THE HUM OF THE RADIO. LISTEN OVER SOUNDS OF BLADES IN ROTATION. LISTEN THROUGH THE TRAFFIC AND CIRCUS. LISTEN AS HOPE.”
Not a bad slogan, despite the fused sentence near the beginning. Let’s rock.

I would forgive them the lack of signage given the TWO DOZEN Guinness taps 🙂 Drink up, my friend, as I think the Irish save the good stuff for themselves! For a moment I thought the slogan might be new Lucinda lyrics.

Lucinda and the band were in great form, and the crowd really got behind them. A Sold Out, stuffed Vicar St venue compared to 3 years ago. Up there with any of the shows I’ve seen her do (about 15). And Stuart Mathis knocked the ball outta the park, as per the other times I’ve seen him.
I was delighted the new album was available at the Merch stand, CD & Vinyl. The vinyl comes with a download code where you can get MP3s and / or WAVs. I downloaded both: the MP3s are 96kbps. The WAVs are CD standard 16bit/44.1Khz, which also has an extra Radio Edit of “Dust”. It’s a great move to let us have the WAVs. All bands should do it that way, and I salute Lucinda & Tom for doing that: Thanks.
See you in London, and come back to Dublin more often please !

…hahahaha…myself…I tried to make a joke with the traditional dress of Scotland “wear a skirt” instead wear jeans…I would also say that maybe my english is a little rusty…lack of practice… 😛
January 20, 2016 at 5:10 pm #54840stogerParticipantI’ll take your English any day, bigsubi. And though you are not traveling this month, you might want to allow some free time for that this summer. . . . Just saying.
And now to switch into a kilt for tonight’s proceedings,
“Mr. Stoger”
January 23, 2016 at 6:50 am #54841LafayetteParticipantThose Three Days!!!
I’m searching for you in the crowd, stoger, whenever I hear that familiar tweet on my phone signalling “Up Periscope.”
Thanks for the reports. You’re missing the snowpocalypse back home. Safe travels!
