April 30, 2013 at 3:23 pm #51526tonygKeymasterAn evening with Joe Boyd was held last night at the Grammy Museum. Joe Boyd was the guy who produced Nick Drake’s records, and also worked with such artists as Fairport Convention, The Incredible String Band, Pink Floyd, etc. He eventually became head of music for Warner Brothers Films.
He was interviwed about his career in general and Nick Drake in particular for about an hour before Lu came out. Joe had said Lu did the best cover of a Nick Drake song in “Which Will”. So naturally Lu perfomed the song and then sat down with Joe and the interview dude, Scott Goldman, to talk about Nick Drake and his influence on her music. After about 20 minutes, Lu played “River Man”, which she said she had just worked up the night before, and the show was over. Good crowd. Lu was awesome.
Website-wise, Paul From Los Angeles made the scene, and presumably will corraborate my story. Good to see Tom as always and I waved at Lu from about 50 yards away while I was going down the escalator. I think she waved back. 8)

April 30, 2013 at 6:27 pm #51528paul_from_losangelesParticipantI corroborate tonyg’s report. A fascinating 1-on-1 discussion for 75 minutes, with vivid insights about Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, and Bob Dylan’s 1965 electric performance at Newport.
Joe Boyd had a Mac laptop on-stage, with video files of Nick Drake’s music. Two videos were shown on the stage-screen during the discussion. Obviously, I don’t have access to Joe’s Mac. However, after some research, I found these 2 videos, which are either identical or very close to the videos that were shown: (1) a Volkswagen commercial, and (2) Lisa Hannigan, singing Black Eyed Dog, at a Nick Drake tribute concert.

It is true, Tony, that this visual doesn’t rise to the level of your own Omniphotogenicism in that shot from Amoeba Records which grumpymama did, but thanks for posting.
