I’m just re-entering info about this most unusual venue deep in the Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville, TN which eventually airs on PBS.

I believe our road warrior stoger also from TN first reported this in January then the gremlins deleted the post.

Mr. stoger, are you attending this underground show in your home state. ?

If so, watch your step as per the Cumberland Caverns website.

Q: How do we get to the show?
A: Groups are brought down every 15 minutes starting one hour before the show. It is about a 650 yard walk to the Volcano Room, where the shows are held. Half of that walk is via a gravel path, the remainder is a path through the caverns. The hike is recommended for those that are moderately active and does include a VERY steep incline.

We don’t want a repeat of tonyg’s slip from the Hotel Cafe show.
Also, I never reported it before but I had a misstep exiting the Lucinda show in Buffalo, NY November, 2011, but nothing like tonyg’s.
Very simply put Lefty (you know the guy who denies owning a pink and blue shirt in Ra-Cha-Cha) helped me up and quoted from West “Are You Alright” I was none the worse for wear. 😆

If you are going enjoy and report as is customary.
    Thanks.

You scared the cr*p out of me that night, LWj. You also, sir, are a warrior!

Professor: IF you attend, enjoy the acoustics and watch out for bats!

OK, now I’m getting cold feet. Yes, I plan[ned] to attend. That episode from The Andy Griffith Show where Barney makes a “cave rescue” of Andy and Helen is weighing heavy on my mind at moment. I prefer to do my reporting from sea level or above. But we’ll see. . .

Ah memories stoger and thanks to You Tube on a FF (Friendly Friday) let’s watch the Barney rescue operation again.

10:45 local time and still no stoger report..

I have contacted local authorities and they are currently assembling a rescue team.
They have been asked to bring anything they can get their hands on to help dig.

Will update as info becomes available.

Man, it’s great to be well above sea level again: pshew.

1 Something Wicked This Way Comes
2 Pineola [preceded by Lu deeming this venue the greatest sounding room she’s ever played]
    3 Drunken Angel
4 Burning Bridges [followed by “Somebody needs to record a live album in here”]
    5 Everything but the Truth {whose lyrics reference both Son House (“people grinnin’ in your face”) and Lucinda Williams (“sweet old world”)}
    6 Changed the Locks
7 Real Live Bleeding Fingers & Broken Guitar Strings
    8 Honeybee
9 Get Right with God [before which Lucinda deems these caverns “the most monstrous place I’ve ever been”]

How nice how nice to saunter up a few minutes before Lu’s start and claim the first row center section folding chair on the aisle, stage-Mathis. I had been enjoying Shovels & Rope at a distance, liking Dave Eggar a bit from afar. I caught only the last two Chip Taylor songs after slipsliding my way past sandy outcroppings over damp flooring to the room proper, but of course these were “Angel of the Morning” and “Wild Thing.” The latter I called correctly seconds before, standing by Mr. Mathis at the [alcohol-free] Cumberland Caverns snack bar.

There’s only one way out and one way in to this room, folks, so I enjoyed the entourage’s discreet entry near the end of the Shovels & Rope set, tour manager Eric running interference, manager Overby holding a steady hand for the frontwoman, Lu herself clutching a purse and seeming bemused by the environment. A pleasant surprise was a rhythm section, and since the boys got all set up 3 to 4 minutes before Lu walked up from the back, drummer Norton took the liberty of taking photos of his surroundings while waiting; all this culminated in a local roadie snapping a pic of the three fellas next to their instruments. Once Lu found her bearings, the set began and continued in fine fettle.

The show should air in the early fall, coming to a PBS station near you.

Good to see sound wiz Corey again, though in the absence of guitar tech TM Eric Himself handled the songbook duties.

So call off the rescue dogs mike and lwj, I’m breathing normally again.

A photo gallery from the cave, y’all should be able to spot Lu in 3 or 4 pics plus our Perfessor in this image.
    What a venue.

And of course thanks to stoger for his play by play reporting.

First two songs from the Cave on You Tube.
Judging by the high quality I’d say these are portions of the real thing to be aired on PBS in the Fall.

    Something Wicked…….. and Pineola.
