lwj…you are a trip!
Thanks Lafayette.
As I reported to TNT under the thread on Kathleen Edwards, I’m semi-retired and enjoy the time spent exploring Lu’s career. In the meantime, “Go Bearcats Go”

ParticipantLu said that most of the places that she used to play or hang out at are not there anymore, but she did remember a couple of places that have survived and she’s going to try and think of others:
Irene’s
539 St. Philip
This is an Italian restaurant that she used to play at. I’ve not been there with her.The Coffee Pot
714 St. Peter
Lu and I went here when she played NO in the spring -a great old breakfast place that is one places that is lost in time. I won’t spoil the surprises. Lu used to go here back when she lived in NO. You might have to wait at the door but it’s worth it.December 30, 2009 at 7:01 am #41694Lafayette
ParticipantThank you so much, TO! I’ve made note of these places and will be sure to visit and take a few photos !

ParticipantMore coming soon -Lu has been working on a much more extensive list- I posted these first two without realizing that she was putting together a much bigger list.

That is just too cool for her to take the time to make the list and for you to post it.

ParticipantShe seems to be enjoying it -I think it’s bringing back a lot of memories -she was saying how it was making her want to go there again

ParticipantDrunken Angel, it is way cool, isn’t it?
I was going to ask, after you posted the 2 addresses, if she could remember the address of her $75 a month row house/apartment she rented/shared (I believes she spoke of this on one of the live CD’s or maybe it was an interview) but thought she might think it too creepy to ask that. However, if she is enjoying it, could you ask her that one, too? 😀 I will take pics of the Lu sites and post to a flickr site when I return.
If anyone is watching the game, we have tickets in the lower section of the dome, 24 rows up, in the corner of one of the end zones. I doubt there will be TV coverage in that section but you never know. Tonight, the local news was showing fans and players at the team hotel in NO, and a free concert by the Gin Blossoms, in the pouring rain.
I”m excited to be going to the game, and even more so to be exploring Lu’s early career roots! Walking in Lu’s footsteps and seeing how she first earned her wings, I find mesmorizing and a way to connect even more to her words and music. For instance, I have driven over Lake Ponchartrain on our last visit several years ago. A former neighbor moved there and we drove across the lake to visit them while we were there. That’s one big *ss lake. Now, when I hear Lu sing about Lake Ponchartrain, it takes me back to that trip.
Tom, please tell Lu mucho thanks for the list!

Lafayette;
Please be more specific from the attached seating chart.
http://www.superdome.com/images/dome_images/seating_expanded_config_lg.pdfWhat will you be wearing?
Examples might be: A West Chester, OH cap, A Bear Cats hoodie, a Lu T-shirt, WHO-DEY gloves, etc. Most of all, have fun at the game, at your friend’s tail gate party at the mansion and exploring Lu’s past in New Orleans.

ParticipantWow, this is cool! I will also be going to New Orleans as a graduation gift. Can’t wait to check out all these spots.

ParticipantI’m back! We returned late last night to frigid temps and some snowfall. We had a great time, despite the humiliating loss. To answer a few commments I’ve been seeing in various threads. It’s a little late to respond, and I doubt the cameras panned to our group, however, lwj, we were seated in section 124, the corner of the end zone where the cheerleaders and the mascot were on the field. TNT, I found out New Orleans locals don’t care for Florida, with LSU being an SEC team. They were rooting for UC. We were 23,000 fans strong, and the locals were loving it.
Last year we went to the Orange Bowl and this year to the Sugar Bowl. I have to say, the Sugar Bowl was so much better, so much more fun with everything within walking distance of the Dome.
I’ll write a little report in a few days, once I get settled in.

ParticipantWelcome home, Lafayette! Glad y’all had a good time despite the game’s outcome. Of course, in a city like NOLA, it’s hard NOT to have a good time!
Happy New Year!

ParticipantLafayette,
I can’t wait to see the recap of your trip; you are so good with details and painting the picture. 😀
I am going to New Orleans in 3 weeks for a trade show, so perhaps I can use your log as my tour guide. Please let me know of any extra special places.
Next week I go to NYC with memories of the 30th anniversary shows, and then the week after that to Minneapolis for the first time since 9/18/09. You know this trip won’t compare in fun – or warmth…snow covers the street lamps and the window sills, the buildings and the brittle crooked trees…
Happy New Year Everyone!

ParticipantHi Sandy!
I’m hoping to have the trip details up in the next few days. I have some great recommendations for you (and folkblues), courtesy of TO and Lu.
I’m ready to go back to NO soon, however, I don’t envy your trip to Minneapolis at present. It’s cold here where I live, looks worse up north…
Happy New Year to you as well!

ParticipantI have finished my NOLA recap following in Lu’s footsteps. I would still like to add a few pics to the blog, however, I have been working on this all morning. and ready to call it a day on blogging. I am going to do some sort of photo album and hopefully provide a link to that as well. Apologies for the small print. I’m unfamiliar with personal blogging, signed up for this one through wordpress, and as far as I can tell, unless I do a paid upgrade, the font provided is the font I have to use. Very small and not for old eyes. You’ll need your reading glasses for sure, if you’re in my age bracket 😆

Lafayette, just a superb read of your blog.
You surely have earned your PhD in “Luology” with a strong minor in computer savvy.
I loved the Preservation Hall web site with it’s virtual interactive tour.
One sign you can zoom in on was neat, as follows”
Tradional Request $2.00 , Others $5.00, The Saints $10.00
The black and white video of Sweet Emma Barrett pounding on the piano was great.I felt like I had returned to New Orleans from your report.
It must have been very special to receive hand-written notes from Lucinda for your tour.lwj
P.S. The photo in your blog-I’m assuming it is you.
What does it say on your T shirt? I’m…… (just curious-also the badge on your hat ) -
