    wow, what a night…
it was a long day; soundcheck at noon and stage time 12 hours later. lots of restless anticipation to get up there and get on with it. when we did, lu and band sounded fucking classic.

speaking from my end, the protocol for the set was for val, dave, and butch to do just what they normally do, and for me to add to that. i’ll be honest, it was more than a little intimidating… what do you add to something that already sounds that good??!!

but we made it through, the crowd was very enthusiastic considering most of them had been in there for 4 or 5 hours already.

i really loved getting another chance to play with val. his thing is so natural to this band’s sound, and he makes it so musical – there were a few moments where he was so “on” that either i forgot to play or forgot that i was playing!

that’s all i can remember, like i said it was a looong day… but ask me anything! i’ll be back on a bit later, getting kicked out of hotel now!

Ha Ha: 49 replies seemed a cyber typo, but with our wine-sipping (not to say -gulping) Lafayette doing individual play by play posts, perfectly understandable! I feel like I lived this show vicariously–in slow mo down tempo time. Good to know Blaze Foley has an entrepreneurial sibling still alive and kicking. Blake, looking forward to meeting you in Indy, where the Val quotient will be missed but the rhythm section alive and kicking. . . .

Blake I see that your former band was there. Did you get to see or play with them?

Yea! Had lunch today at Whole Foods with the old Dawes guys. Everyone seems in good spirits, some great stuff coming up this year for them. Very exciting.

Good to hear, Blake. And when I said “the Val quotient will be missed” above, I didn’t mean it as a slight to you–great reports about your work Valentine’s Night and also the Austin Lost Highway thing. Welcome to the band, and the Midwest will rock come late April.

After “Drunken Angel” she mentions something about Foley’s Bar (in Austin) being run by Blaze Foley’s sister (the radio announcer interrupted and I had trouble hearing the rest of the remarks), a BBQ place she says that plays live music.

She introduces next song. “A song I wrote about a poet in Arkansas.”

    3. Pineola

This was a real challenge to track down. Foley’s BBQ, Sister.
So here is what I found.
One of Blaze’s sisters is Marsha Weldon.
Then it became obvious 😆 if you spell Foley’s backwards you get Yelof’s. ( in Athens, TX )
    http://www.yelofs.com/

Here is a blurb on the establishment.

Welcome to Yelof’s BBQ and Entertainment Hall!!

We hope you enjoy your visit and that you will come back soon and often! Let us know if there is anything we can do to make you feel totally at home.

Maybe you’ve heard of Blaze Foley?….heard ‘If I Could Only Fly’, his most famous song?

    Maybe not.

But before you leave Yelof’s BBQ and Entertainment Hall, we guarantee you will have a little bit better understanding of the man, musician, songwriter, artist, good Samaritan and inspiration for this unique dining and entertainment establishment.

Blaze was, to say the very least, a colorful character. His wit and honesty were woven into the lyrics of his songs as well as the fabric of his life.

    Along with duct tape……..

He was fascinated, perhaps even obsessed, with duct tape.

(See if you can find the picture of his duct tape watch next time you come in.)

Perhaps it was his simple way of ‘fixing’ the world.

Throughout Yelof’s (Foley backwards, if you haven’t figured that out yet) you will find news articles about Blaze, copies of his song lyrics, prints of his colored marker artwork and small bits of memorabilia his sister (and our owner!), Marsha Weldon, has collected over the years.

Marsha is a staunch advocate of spreading the word about her brother’s life and his work. She’s pretty passionate about bringing great music to you, too. That’s why you’ll find the best in live musical entertainment at Yelof’s every Friday and Saturday night.

That’s what Yelof’s is all about – Blaze Foley, great music AND the best dang BBQ you’ll find West of Paris – France, that is.

If this is your first visit or your ninety-first, Welcome to Yelof’s!!

Great job, lwj! I missed putting the name of the BBQ place in my remarks…Lucinda mentioned she was told about this place (Foley’s spelled backwards) but couldn’t come up with the pronunciation. I remember reading about Yelof’s, somewhere, but had forgotten about the article as well as the origin of the name.

The songs included on the downloadable “EP” from Lu’s set at the show were just released on Facebook:

    Lucinda Williams iTunes Live: SXSW
    Born To Be Loved
    Convince Me
    Come On
    Unsuffer Me
    Honey Bee
    Blessed

Looks like they included songs released most recently (i.e., from her last three albums)…

    Tom

P.S. They will be available in iTunes Music Store for download tomorrow (March 22nd)…

My itunes freezes when I launch on my PC. I have googled everything trying to come up with a solution and am finding nothing. Anyone have suggestions on how I attempt to fix my problem? I’m open.

From the iTunes support page. Good luck.

Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
    Symptoms

This article provides some general suggestions when trying to troubleshoot an issue where iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7 won’t open, stops responding, or unexpectedly quits. It may be useful to print this document before following the steps outlined below.

For a discussion of troubleshooting similar issues in iTunes for Windows XP, see iTunes for Windows XP: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues.
If you are having trouble installing iTunes, see Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows.

    Resolution

    Create a New User Account
When troubleshooting a variety of issues, it can be useful to determine if the issue affects a specific Windows user account or all accounts. Follow the steps below to create a new user account in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
Open Add or remove user accounts (If using the Classic View in Windows Vista, open User Accounts. Then open Manage another account).
Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process.
Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu.
Log into the newly created user account.
Open iTunes and determine whether the issue you were experiencing persists in this new user.
If you see the same issue in the newly created user account, proceed to the System-wide troubleshooting section below. If you do not experience the same issue, consult the User-specific troubleshooting section below.

    User-specific troubleshooting
If your issue only happens in one particular user account, some of the suggestions below may resolve the issue. Before proceeding however, you’ll need to make hidden files and folder visible in Windows. Follow steps 1-5 in iTunes for Windows in Windows Vista doesn’t open after upgrading.

    Remove iTunes Plug-ins
Third-party iTunes plug-ins can cause many issues, particularly if the plug-in has not been updated to be compatible with new versions of iTunes. iTunes plug-ins are stored in the following location:
    C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingApple ComputeriTunesiTunes Plug-ins
    Remove iTunes Preference files
Some of the files that iTunes uses to store settings and preferences may be unusable and cause issues. iTunes has two folders where preferences are saved. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The location for the two preference folders are:
    C:UsersusernameAppDataLocalApple ComputeriTunes
    C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingApple ComputeriTunes
    Create a new iTunes Library
Hold the Shift key while opening iTunes. You will be prompted to Choose iTunes Library.
Choose Create Library to create a new one. In the following window you will be prompted to select a location to save the new iTunes Library.
Click Save. iTunes will open the newly created library. After closing iTunes, you can always select the original library by using the Shift key when opening iTunes.
    Recreate your iTunes Library
If you iTunes library has become unusable, rebuilding it as described in How to recreate your iTunes Library and Playlists may resolve the issue.
Check for content files with issues
Sometimes a certain audio file can cause iTunes to quit unexpectedly or stop responding when it is analyzing gapless playback information. To determine which file(s) may be cause the issue follow the steps below:
    Quit iTunes.
    Navigate to the iTunes folder:
    Windows Vista – C:usersusernameMusiciTunes
    Windows 7 – C:usersusernameMy MusiciTunes
Move the iTunes Library.itl file to your desktop
Open iTunes. You should not see any content in iTunes.
From the File menu, choose Add Folder to Library.
Navigate to the folder where your music is located. Typically this is
    Windows Vista – C:usersusernameMusiciTunesiTunes Media
    Windows 7 – C:usersusernameMy MusiciTunesiTunes Media
