Tonight’s the night! Actually that’s another song. I look forward to Lucinda entertaining us while the sun scorches us to near death. It has been over 95 forever. I read a letter to the editor about the July 26th show, wherever it was, and the writer claimed Dwight Yoakam was so loud that numerous people were claiming refunds after the show. Great.

August 3, 2018 at 3:09 pm #80768tonygKeymasterSuper fun night. The short sets kept things moving along. It was a warm evening. Not a puff of breeze. Big crowd. We walked in at 8 and Steve Earle was on, doing a song with Lu. Steve’s band was great. Lu came out at 8:50 and looked and sounded fabulous. She said she was excited to play for her home crowd. Lake Charles was a little peppier than usual; sped up due to the short set? Foolishness was the highlight as usual. I made it through 2 Dwight Yoakam songs before my head started vibrating so I watched the rest of his set on TV. The whole thing was over at 11 pm.
It was great to see Stoger in the house, fresh from San Fran. I did not see any other local forum folks. When we left we were menaced by some coyotes; Griffith Park is their home. Loud screaming and clapping followed by a 50 yard dash and we were safely in our car. Man over beast!
August 3, 2018 at 9:04 pm #80770tonygKeymasterHilarious anecdote: at the end of Foolishness when Lu is belting out the final verses and holding a note for like 8 seconds, an enormous winged insect that had been flying around over section A and the orchestra pit suddenly headed for Lu and crash landed on the stage right in front of her. Lu recoiled in horror but kept playing. After the song Lu gave us a play by play of the bugs final moments. This was reminiscent of the Hollywood Bowl show last year opening for Tom Petty when Lu actually ate a bug in similar fashion. You can’t make this stuff up.

August 4, 2018 at 4:00 pm #80773tonygKeymasterNow that you mention it. Mr. S., Doug and I had Peggy French sitting to my left, you in front of course, and to our right 2 ladies who were very charged up, loud, boisterous, and otherwise rocking out during all 3 sets as if they were at a Megadeath concert. At one point the blonde lady let go with the loudest whistle of all time; Doug, myself, and Peggy all grabbed our ears simultaneously and winced in pain. They were a lot of fun though. About an hour after the show the blonde lady comes up to me and says “don’t I know you from somewhere?”. After we worked out the fact that I had just sat next to her for 3 hours she introduced herself as Suzi Gardner, formerly of the punk/bad girl band L7! She said they are getting back together and I should check them out sometime. I Googled them the next day. All I can say is “wow”.
