ParticipantAll this Elvis negativity – Whats Up with That?
I listen to Lucinda singing with Elvis and their voices sound very similiar. But mostly they sound like they are having a blast singing together. The lyrics are so amusing they make me smile, and I’m sure the both of them where smiling the whole performance. Lucinda and Elvis have been doing duets together for ages. I guess you are saying she doesn’t know how to select a good duet partner. Well I disagree, I think they sound great together.

ParticipantAnother vote for Elvis.
His voice is certainly unusual but also extraordinarily soulful and brimming with character. He is also a masterful songwriter and an extraordinarily gifted wordsmith.
The comments above could also apply to Lucinda herself. Neither Lu nor Elvis are to everyone’s taste. But both richly reward the effort required to get past ones immediate aversion to their less than chart-standard voices.
I believe that both recognise these qualities in the other, hence their frequent collaborations and obvious mutual admiration.
So give the guy another listen please.

ParticipantI think you guys missed the point really. Elvis has been around for 30 years, and I’ve never bought his records, although liking early classics like ‘Oliver’s Army’, and ‘Watching the Detectives’. I’ve just never really dug his voice. Is that negativity? I think it’s just personal taste/preference.’8)’

Exactly. No one is saying that there is anything intrinsically right or wrong about Elvis’s duet – or I hope they’re not – they were merely making their personal thoughts known.
Except that, for a while, only the people whose personal taste made them hate Costello’s contribution were voicing their onion. I guess that some of us others decided a little balance was in order.
Peace.

ParticipantAs am I 😀
And just to clarify my comment, it is about the voice. I never meant to imply that I don’t respect him, because I do. I’ve just never been a fan. And I had high hopes for this song because I’ve heard it live many times, and it is an amusing and fun song.
And I do have to admit that the studio version has already started to grow on me. I guess this is just further proof of Lu’s great insight 😉

ParticipantOK, old fart that I am, I’ve just played the track through and apart from the superb guitar, guess what? It’s growing on me! 😯

ParticipantTears of Joy is excellent, even if it is a little bit of a rehash of Fruits of my Labor. I know a lot of this record is compiled of songs written from different periods. Was this one written during World Without Tears?
If Wishes Were Horses is also an excellent song. I could definitely see this one becoming my favorite of the new records.
Jaillhouse Tears and Real Love are both solid rock style songs. Elvis’ vocals are meh but this would still be a fun jam song. Could Doug sing it live?

ParticipantDoes anyone know if there is a website previewing all of the tracks on “Little Honey”.
I can’t find any site besides the 5-song preview on Amazon.com -
