WNKU 89.7 is featuring “Little Honey” for the month of December as their CD of the month! This basically entails automatically sending the CD to all existing members or encouraging new members to join with a donation, along with many mentions and spins through the month as they promote the record and encourage membership.

I’m sure you’re disappointed at seeing John Melloncamp way down the list at number 5.
Bring Lu and B6 to Cincinnati in ’09. The Twentieth Century or Madison Theater could set up standing room only in the lower level with all, or limited seating in the upper level.

December 11, 2008 at 9:46 am #36421DavidinMaineParticipantWow–what a sad list. From my perspective, it really is a reflection of the sorry state of affairs of the recording industry. I wonder what actual sales numbers are associated with these ranks… David Byrne’s homegrown effort comes in at 42 without any corporate/industry backing–a Cinderella story of sorts. However, I wonder how Lost Highway feels about LH coming in at 18th especially in light of all the $$$ support and what it the return regarding each unit sold. Lil Wayne at 3 and LWs at 18? Hmmm, sad, really. Where is the recording industry heading and where will it be in 5-years? How about corporate radio? As Frank Zappa once said, Kill Ugly Radio. Maybe they both will ask for a bailout in the vein of the Big Three!

I believe that is a list of the best albums of the year according to Rolling Stone’s critics. It is not a list of the best selling albums of the year.
December 11, 2008 at 4:14 pm #36423LafayetteParticipantYeah, Steve, it was a hearbreaker seeing JM way down on the list at # 5 😆
The following blurb may explain criteria used to determine best albums, but it is just my opinion. There are a few in the top that have political content, one of them being Mellencamp’s (although fourteen songs is an exaggeration) as explained here:
“John Mellencamp’s growling fatalism and T Bone Burnett’s scorched-blues production make this the darkest, most compelling Mellencamp album in years,” said Rolling Stone in the blurb accompanying its prestigious 50 Best Albums of 2008 listing. “It is also the perfect run-up to Election Day: Fourteen songs about a nation going broke and a generation on the ropes.”
The article also singled out “Troubled Land,” and especially its lines “Beware of those who want to harm you/And drag you down to a lower game/Just know the truth is coming” for sounding “like the Election Day we deserved.”
“Troubled Land” also came in at #48 in the magazine’s 100 Best Singles chart.
“This stark heartland rocker offers a clear-eyed view of Bush’s America,” extolled Rolling Stone, adding “but the ending feels like a benediction,” in reference to John’s lyric “Just know that truth is coming.”
I could be wrong, but that seems to be the direction they were taking in rating the Best Albums of the Year.

November 18, 2009 at 11:24 pm #36427RainydaymanParticipantHoney? I thought it was hair gel. Well now that explains a few things, not the least of which were some awkward unwelcome advances from a particularly amorous queen bee and a few of her questionable drones.

Actually I may have exaggerated a little……okay, a lot. I’ve never seen this product before.
Thanks for the link.November 18, 2009 at 11:42 pm #36430tntracyParticipantI’ve never seen it, either, but it looks like a legit promo item from Lost Highway, IMHO. The background printing on the label is the same as the artwork from the album…
