ParticipantThursday evening, I enjoyed the Kathleen Edwards/John Doe performance at the El Rey Theatre, site of last year’s Lucinda album recordings. There are 5 shows remaining in Kathleen & John’s mini-tour up the Pacific coast. The show has no backup band, just the 2 singer/songwriters, singing solo and duet for about 90 minutes. Both performers play acoustic guitar, with Kathleen adding a fiddle and a 12-string electric mandolin. However, the El Rey show did feature Greg Leisz on steel and electric guitars; I have no knowledge if Greg will play on the remaining shows.

ParticipantI’m a big Kathleen Edwards fan & would love to see her live, but she never seems to come to the Atlanta area… 😥

ParticipantWoo hoo! Someone must have been reading my mind. Pollstar.com just posted that Kathleen is playing at Eddie’s Attic, one of my favorite venues here in Atlanta, March 12, 2009!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Now I just have to hope & pray that Lu doesn’t end up playing in Atlanta the same night! 😕

ParticipantJust got back from the sweetest little venue in Atlanta (Decatur, actually, a very-close-in Atlanta suburb) – Eddie’s Attic – where we enjoyed a great evening with Kathleen Edwards. A very talented singer-songwriter from Memphis, Clare Burson, opened, and then Ms. Edwards & her husband, Colin Cripps, fresh off of the Cayamo Cruise, took the stage & played a great set. Clare joined in on violin for one song – otherwise, it was just Kathleen & Colin on guitars, with Colin throwing in some electric mandolin on a few numbers. We had a reserved table right up front, so we had a great view in a very small venue (capacity is 185 people). Afterward, Kathleen was nice enough to sign a couple of posters for me – one an awesome, huge tour poster that cost only $5 at the merch table. Picked up a signed Clare Burson CD as well.
A great night with a great lady… 😀

ParticipantOkay, Tom, I do see a trend here with you (as you proclaimed over dinner in Atlanta).
A sucker for female singer-songwriters ~ check
Collect posters ~ check
I’ve always wanted to see Kathleen Edwards. I almost caught her several years ago while she was touring with My Morning Jacket but couldn’t make the show when it came through. Glad you had a great time. I’ve often wondered how Eddie’s Attic was as a venue. I use to see several singer songwriters scheduled there while perusing on myspace.

ParticipantHere’s a couple of pics from the Eddie’s Attic show (first one is during their set, the second is after the show at the merch table) that a friend of mine, Bob, took. He & his wife sat at the table w/ us for the show…
