New song from Kathleen entitled “Going to Hell”
Love the artwork on her guitar including a flower (Asking for Flowers?)
Reminds me of Lu’s album cover.(Essence)
Has quite the European tour with Bon Iver coming up this fall mainly all shows sold out.
Nothing for Georgia or Canada unfortunately. Here’s the video.

August 7, 2011 at 3:19 pm #41526LWjettaParticipantHere’s a great pic of Kathleen along with her talking about her new untitled album due Jan./12, her new Beau (Bon Iver aka Justin Vernon), her EP coming out in Sept. with the National Parks song “Wapusk” ( One of the ones I emailed to you Tom).
Bon Iver is on the cover of the issue.

Most of the Bon Iver shows in the USA and Europe with Kathleen are sold out for this year. Finally, on something very close to my home here in Niagara, Kathleen (sans Justin) will again be appearing at the Jackson Triggs Winery outdoor ampitheatre on Sept. 3rd.
Lucky me. This was the same venue in 2009 wherein the famous “biotch” story was told.lwj

Thanks for the heads up on the Dakota.
It’s an 1&1/2 hour drive to downtown Toronto for a short-ish show. The Dakota’s capacity is 130 patrons.
I can just imagine me standing in line and being the 131st.
But as I reported on Aug. 7th, I’ve got tickets to see Kathleen for a long-ish outdoor concert at the Jackson Triggs winery on Sep. 3rd just 10 minutes drive from where I live in the Niagara region.
Been lucky enough to see Kathleen twice last year including meeting her + an autograph.
Kathleen has played the Dakota Tavern many times in the past.
Here’s a short clip from the Dakota last Aug. 3, 2010 singing “Mercury” from her Failer album with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver)-her new significant other.http://www.nodepression.com/video/kathleen-edwardsjustin-vernon
Plus a great quality video of Kathleen from the Dakota Aug./10 song “Sister Golden Hair”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FALE3rz87cYAnd Lafayette, remember I posted much earlier this year Amos Lee’s live set recorded at the Dakota .
Just Amos, no audience.lwj
August 29, 2011 at 9:32 pm #41533LWjettaParticipantLast night’s concert at the Dakota Tavern in Toronto-The one I did not attend.
Here is a full review with set list AND the entire concert was recorded in flac format.
I don’t know if Gord and Jim appeared shirtless.
I downloaded the whole thing.Audio is excellent quality.
The on stage banter is great and Kathleen’s production company in Toronto is aptly named “Potty Mouth Productions, Inc.”
A quote from the review follows:
Quote”
But these are comparatively minor quibbles next to set highlights, including an emotional Asking For Flowers, a piano-centered taken on Mercury, a bouncing rendition of 6 OâClock News and a fun, extremely casual version of I Make The DoughâŚ, which was originally abandoned after Kathleen burped into the mic, and was followed with in-song banter, and Kathleen distracting Jim by licking his neck during the solo. End Quote”
Here is the link to the review and recording.

Seems the word prolific is the one to use these days.
Kathleen is one of those ( just like Lucinda), appearing way out West in Whistler, BC( the Winter 2010 Olympics site) on Sat. night, last night in Toronto , this Sat. night in my Niagara area, then off with Bon Iver on his US tour followed by Europe this fall.lwj

Here was an unexpected treat at The Dakota Tavern, as Kathleen Edwards, with Jim Bryson and Gord Tough, did a beautiful cover of “Feeling Yourself Disintegrate” by The Flaming Lips. It would never occur to me as a natural fit, but Kathleen & friends nailed this. Just a beautiful interpretation.End Quote”The Dakota Tavern, Toronto ON

September 2, 2011 at 12:07 pm #41535LWjettaParticipantA little preliminary report for Kathleen’s concert tomorrow night that I’m attending.
It’s an outdoor ampitheatre , occupancy of only 450., Jackson Triggs Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON
Weather report looks good.
Kathleen will be appearing with Hawksley Workman.
Here’s his bio.¡ Hawksley workman is a prolific songwriter, producer, singer, multi instrumentalist, actor, and published author. His 12 year career has produced as many records, all ambitiously creative and defying category. The 6 times nominated 2 time juno award winner has enjoyed radio success in Europe and Canada and has written songs for celebrated artists the world over. Workmanâs production work (18 albums) has been attached to many successful artists including Tegan and Sara, Serena Ryder, Great Big Sea, Sarah Slean, and Jeremy Fisher. Hawksleyâs touring career has seen him play nearly a thousand shows in over 15 countries. Heâs headlined prestigious venues like Massey Hall in Toronto and The Olympia in Paris, as well as opening for heroes Morrissey, David Bowie, and The Cure. As an actor Workman has appeared in films such as Score, Hockey a Musical (he also wrote a portion of the music), Youkali Hotel, and Stormy Weather. Beyond his own solo work, Hawksley has written songs for many feted artists including legends Johnny Hallyday and Jane Birkin. In 2002 ECW press published Hawksley Burns for Isadora, a collection of fictional love letters to a mermaid.
Since no cameras are allowed at the winery (although I may sneak my little point and shoot in) here’s a pic I took the other day of the ampitheatre alongside the grape vines.
Looking forward to hearing some of Kathleen’s new songs and unlike stoger who can rattle off any of Lu’s set lists in his head, I’ll bring along a pen +paper and will do my best including a fashion report.
Look for my concert report on Sunday.lwjJackson Triggs Winery Aug. 2011.jpg[/attachment:3enl5z8z]
September 2, 2011 at 3:04 pm #41536LafayetteParticipantHave fun, lwj! Beautiful scenery and here’s hoping you don’t get tossed from the show by using your “point and shoot.” đŽ đ
September 2, 2011 at 3:22 pm #41537tntracyParticipantEnjoy, LWJ! I’m looking forward to your report, and I’M JEALOUS!!!

Last nightâs concert with Kathleen and Hawksley Workman was a full three hours of magic. One of the best concerts Iâve attended.
This was a true co-bill..
Kathleenâs set list. with her band-Jim Bryson and Gord Tough on guitars
1. Asking For Flowers
2. In State
3. Empty Threat ( new song)
4. Back Again ( with a long guitar riff)
5. Six OâClock News
6. Good Night California ( with a comical false start) and playing the violin.
7. I Make the Dough
8. Feeling Yourself Disintegrate
9. Change the Sheets
10. Back to Me ( on electric guitar)
11. Hockey SkatesStage banter: Now I have my hair straight like Jennifer Anniston but I eat much better than her-Sheâs gotta eat more.
Hawksley played drums for me on my new album âVoyageurâ and I didnât even have to pay him.
Typical Kathleen stage presence.Fashion Reportâ black blouse, skinny gray pants and high heel shoesâ.
Hawksleyâs set was most enjoyable, I donât quite know how to categorize his music genre-Rock, Folk you name it with lotâs of on stage humour. Sorta like a Chuck Prophet showman. He was wearing a Tom Waitâs style derby hat and probably can play just about any type of instrument ( guitar, percussion, flute, keyboard, xylophone)
For the finale Kathleen came back on stage with Hawksley and they did a rousing rendition of From Hank to Hendrix.
Oh yeah, I forgot the weather report. Tornado watch and thunderstorms one hour before show time, then everything cleared up. Back home about 11:30 and ½ hour later the skies opened up with a thunder, lightning , wind and rain show. Knocked out the power and it is still off as of 10:00 a.m. Sunday. Typing this on battery power. One thing was cool before the show started. The announcer gave a great introduction to the performers and explained the Winery-Jackson Triggs-received a grant from the Ontario Government for their weekly Summer concerts to bring in the best of Canadian talent. That explains how they can bring in top name talent with a small venue capacity of only 450 @$69. per ticket..
Adjacent to the stage was a large tent set up selling all kinds of wine, snacks, the merchandise tables and a auction table where you could bid on an autographed Kathleen guitar for charity.Power finally returned at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
It turns out cameras were allowed ( no flash).lwjKathleen E. no. 037.JPG[/attachment:2e9xutvn]Kathleen E. no 046.JPG[/attachment:2e9xutvn]Kathleen E. no. 055.JPG[/attachment:2e9xutvn]
September 4, 2011 at 7:05 pm #41539LafayetteParticipantGreat report, lwj! So glad you were able to attend. My money is down on Amos Lee & Pieta Brown making it into your top 10 list. đ
