Kasey Chambers, Australian singer-songwriter, has announced a USA tour for July 6-16. Visit Kasey’s website and Facebook page for the details. Cities include Boston, New York, Nashville, Dallas, Austin, and several others.
Kasey opened for Lucinda in 2001, and they joined for a Soundstage performance in 2003.

The rest is . . . . As for Nashville, the Station Inn is a surprising choice for KC’s gig there; the website lists the 9:30 show on the 12th as “pending”; apparently, Fun with Doyle and Debbie gives way for no man (or woman) as long as it’s a Tuesday. Why not the Belcourt? Station Inn is “historic,” yes, but I’ve never known those caneback chairs and rickety tables to be cleared out for any act, regardless of international stature. Have to see about that one. Thanks for the tip-off.

Excellent Australian, Americana, and bluegrass acoustic music with Kasey, her father Bill on guitars, Ashleigh Dallas on fiddle, mandolin, and vocals, and Michael Muchow on guitars, mandolin, and banjo. Great vocal harmonies, and lots of accolades by Kasey for Lucinda as an inspiration for Kasey.
For this show, there was no external opening act. Bill Chambers opened solo with 5 songs on vocal and acoustic guitar. I believe some remaining shows in this tour have local opening acts.
Again, this is an acoustic show, with some electric guitar–no rock’n’roll, no drums or bass. Just marvelous music. Bill started at 9, and Kasey and her band ended about 11:30 after 20+ songs.
As readily apparent, Kasey is quite pregnant with her 3rd child, and sat for many of the songs.
I believe our road warrior stoger may attend the Knoxville show (nearer his home) on Sunday night, so perhaps a report will follow.

A Knoxvillian named Ian was the “external” opener, had just started in fact when I spied Bill Chambers in a cowboy hat in the lobby and was able to allude to his Bowery opener. He said he was still opening “some” on this tour.
Not only did Kasey reference our Lu twice, she called her an “absolute hero” and mentioned wanting to become a singer-songwriter based on Lu’s opening set for Rosanne Cash in Australia when Kasey was 14. Then Lu returned Down Under to promote the Sweet Old World tour, amazing Kasey that she did not play the title track that particular night.
The Bijou Theatre (“entertaining Knoxville since 1909”) has a nice wall sign listing past luminaries; Lucinda’s name is right next to Montgomery Clift’s in the honor roll! Not quite the individual engraved stars outside the 1st Ave. Minn. venue, but nice.
We got “On a Bad Day” last night, fine live backup vocals from fiddler Ashley, but a bit shy of the studio version mark, if you get my drift.
Bill Chambers was excellent, particularly on lead vocal work for the Gram Parsons cover “Still Feeling Blue.”
Kasey played “the pregnancy card” and was seated for most songs, yes.
I must say some of her patter and jokes haven’t altered much in a decade’s time. That “bicycle seat” business goes back at least till 2001 when I first saw her, and the “fox hunter” narrative predates that, I’d say.
Little Bird was available at Merch, probably should have bought it. I’d say she only played 3-4 new ones, though.
So how wonderful to hear Kasey practically right across the street from my first encounter with her voice, May 24, 2001. Bringing it all back home, indeed.
