Justins performance on Letterman last night with Jason Isbell on guitar
February 8, 2011 at 4:19 pm #42237fuji81ParticipantBest $18.00 I’ve spent in a long time. Saw him, and his tremendous backup players last night in Buffalo. If your thinking about going to see him, think no longer… First song played over the PA after the fabulous opening act(Jessica Lea Mayfield)…2kool2be4gotten…Bonus!
February 8, 2011 at 4:23 pm #42238tntracyParticipantGlad you liked the show, fuji81! JTE is one of my favorite artists to go see…

March 25, 2012 at 12:19 am #42240tntracyParticipantJust purchased tickets to see JTE at the Roswell (GA) Cultural Arts Center (600 seats) on May 25th. At least seeing him then (and Chuck Prophet in Jacksonville, FL May 14th) with help assuage the pain of my oh-so-many-months of “Lu-lessness”… 😉
Tom
P.S. His new CD, Nothing’s Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now is out this Tuesday, March 27th. My pre-ordered copy from Amazon arrived just today, but I haven’t had a listen to it yet…
March 26, 2012 at 12:12 pm #42241LafayetteParticipantHat tip to you, tnt. I looked at Justin’s show schedule and think I will drive over to Columbus for that May 11 show!

Cool! I guar-an-tee you will enjoy it. JTE is very entertaining, and quite the personality from the stage.
His music ain’t half bad, either… 😉 😀

May 12, 2012 at 4:23 pm #42242LafayetteParticipantI caught Justin last night in Columbus, OH at a wonderful venue, The Bluestone, a converted church. The building had fantastic stained glass windows and a stage backdrop that was breathtaking, all wood. It looked like the venue held 300 – 500. There was an outdoor patio area, several bars. Also, adorned on the walls were gig posters from many different artists, all for sale. I found one Lu poster from 2008, a festival in OH. When I have more time, I’ll post it.
The show was good but more streamlined as far as banter and talk. I’m guessing perhaps it was the show format. Too bad that didn’t hold true for the audience. I went to this show with a friend, not particularly interested in Justin’s music (it was more a night out for her) so we sat off to the side. We were just amazed at the number of folks talking on the periphery. I’m not familiar with all of Justin’s work, I only have his last release “Harlem River Blues,” along with my purchase of his latest last night, but he did seem to cover a lot of material from his last two + a Hank Williams song, early in the set.
I would definitely go see him again, only next time, with someone who likes to get close to the stage. I think I would have enjoyed it even more but that’s me.

A Lucinda connect-the-dots – the song was written by Greg Garing. Greg and Lucinda were featured in Bill Rouda’s book on the revitalization of lower Broadway in Nashville.

January 9, 2013 at 6:12 am #42246tntracyParticipantJust got home from seeing JTE perform (again) – this time at my new favorite venue – The Melting Point in Athens, GA. He played all by his lonesome on acoustic and was, as usual, supremely entertaining. Pictured below is the gig poster from the show – I just love it, and fully inteded to take one down from one of the several bulletin boards around the venue but, before I realized it, they were all taken by someone else, and there were none for sale at the merch table… 😐
One of my favorite quotes from the show came when he was introducing a song & explaining that, when he set out to make his first record, he wanted to be a “country singer”. However, he went on, he soon changed his mind after he quickly tired of explaining to people “the difference between Hank Williams and Toby-fuckin’-Keith.” Classic… 😆

P.S. We are seeing Iris DeMent at The Melting Point in March! Can’t wait!! 8)
January 9, 2013 at 12:02 pm #42247Aracari girlParticipantI saw Iris in Orlando in December. She was amazing. Lots of songs from “sing the delta” of course but not many earlier favorites. After the show she was at her merch table – very gracious and genuine lady.
Travelling to St. Augustine Saturday to see Shannon McNally open for Todd Snider. -
