HA! I cannot offer any offtopic recap. I didn’t make tailgate festivities OR the game. As it turns out, my son had a soccer game, as well as team pictures beforehand (which I did not make either but I was lone cheerleader his last two games as DH was traveling) all at the time the UC game started. We gave our tickets to my sister-in-law and 12 year old nephew, so we were well represented. My husband did relay to me, though, he was keeping track on his blackberry, the game started off very slow with UC kicking it up a notch the second half for the win.

The next home game is actually at Paul Brown Stadium on a Thursday, playing Oklahoma. That is a big buzz game. The tailgating festivities will be limited there. The games played at UC’s Nippert Stadium has us doing the tailgating thing in a dedicated space in the alumni section. We usually just show up with a covered dish (but help with tear down), all the initial work is done by other passionate UC coworkers. I’ll have to take pictures of our space, complete with huge inflatable UC bearcat mascot.

A really cool article about Elvis, John, Sun Studios, and Bob Dylan kissing the floor.

Both videos are of such high quality that they are now safely saved in my Real Player library before You Tube deletes them. Hope not.

Looking forward to the web cast next week.

Excellent video (and find!), lwj, of “Scarecrow” at Farm Aid in 1985. I may just use that for the mellenblog this week. 😉

A little trivia in regards to one of the lines in the song. John is a fan of old movies, in particular, he was a big James Dean fan and Paul Newman as well. One of the lines in “Scarecrow” was influenced by “Cool Hand Luke.”

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061512/quotes

Boss: Sorry, Luke. I’m just doing my job. You gotta appreciate that.
Luke: Nah – calling it your job don’t make it right, Boss.

    Scarecrow:

    The crops we grew last summer weren’t enough to pay the loans;
Couldn’t buy the seed to plant this spring and the Farmers Bank foreclosed.
    Called my old friend Schepman up to auction off the land;
He said John it’s just my job and I hope you understand.
Hey, calling it your job, ol’ hoss, sure don’t make it right,

lwj, there will be many Mellenheads in the 6th row. We all purchased VIP seats through Farm Aid and they put us together, a few in the 7th row as well. It’s suppose to be c-o-l-d. Thank goodness for the retractrable roof at Miller Ballpark. The Brewers will be playing the Cincinnati Reds that weekend, in Cincinnati, where by and by, we should be in a holding pattern for the playoffs…first time in 15 years! The city is jazzed.

Our schedule is jam packed today. Once again, no time to tailgate. My son has a soccer game this afternoon. Hopefully, next home game I can take some photos. Our grillmaster has been on ESPN two seperate times, for those occasional games they would cover UC, grilling sausages he buys from a historic outdoor market, Findlay Market, in Over The Rhine. Have fun searching all about Findlay Market, lwj. 😉 😉 😉

The rate this team is going, next year may not bring any ESPN coverage. 😆 I look for it to be ugly today for the Bearcats.

    Wow, lots of topics covered.
    1. Scarecrow”-Great lines from the movie.
Cool Hand Luke’s is also a restaurant chain in CA and ID-betcha you didn’t know that.
2.Findlay Market-I had a great time checking out the history.
We also have a Farmer’s Market ( since the early 1800’s ) in St. Catharines, ON near where I live and work part time.
Often go with friends for a Saturday breakfast and then on to the Market. Much better to support the local farmers and merchants.
    3. Football-Can’t receive ESPN 2 in Canada, but I am cheering for the Bearcats.
3a.) Tomorrow, the Bengals should fare out much better against the Panthers. Good, I’ll see this one on CBS.

Oh, wow, the FOX looks incredible! I’m 99.9 percent sure I will be purchasing tickets for this show. Now, I’m pondering NE, probably Music Hall in NYC to hang with friends or Florida to catch some rays.

Excellent Lafayette. 1 &1/2 hours away for me.
Massey Hall is a very historic theatre, seating for 2,800 and in a way has a Farm Aid connection.
It was financed in the late 1800’s by a Mr. Massey (of Massey, Harris tractor fame)
On Sat. Oct. 11, 2008 I attended Lu’s Little Honey Tour at Massey Hall, wherein I purchased her Essence album from the merch. guy (not Susannah) just 3 days before the release of her Little Honey CD.
    here’s a pic of the venue.[attachment=0:2adzjjof]Massey Hall toronto.jpg[/attachment:2adzjjof]
Lu has appeared there several times and T.Overby has remarked how much Lu likes the venue, so I’m sure John will love it.
On this phase of the tour will his movie still be shown. ?

Nice filler until tickets go on sale for John M.’s 2nd leg of the theatre tour.
From way back in 1988 at the Hard Rock a duet with Paul Simon.

Thanks Lafayette. I had previously entered my e mail from the old Club Cherry Bomb and have been receiving regular e mails from Mellencamp.
So I had the password “troubledland” for Toronto and I can get for $47.50 +$12.00 svce fee+$3.00 order chge for a grand total of $62.50 in the left side gallery, 3rd row. Gallery is above the balcony.
Floor seats go for $130.+ fees and from being at Massey Hall several times and I still have good eyesight (unlike west words camera woes in Fayetteville 😆 ), all seats are pretty good at this venue.
Still didn’t buy the ticket as it is a long way off and I have found being single I can usually snag a good seat closer to the event.
