Fun video indeed ! The only time JM wore his hair long.

Another long hair video of JM from a TV appearance in 1979 or 1980 which, no doubt you have seen Lafayette.
    Love the song “Small Paradise”
( Is he still trying to kick the habit as per Club Cherry Bomb? )

I don’t remember this video all that much (no trivia to offer here) , the song…yes. This was the time period I started following JM, known as JC at that time.

John has tried for many years to quit smoking. I would be floored if he ever managed.

JM is releasing a box set on June 15. Here is a cool, interactive link, complete with book turn pages and song samples.

    Very clever indeed.
“On The Rural Route 7609” is a musical journey that sheds new light on an American musician who, as both a songwriter and and social activist. Mellencamp found his true voice as he followed his heart and mind over the course of a career that, after an improbable start, has spanned four decades and is reflected in the selections heard “On The Rural Route 7609”. “On The Rural Route 7609” is a singular way to discover John Mellencamp again.. arguably, for the first time.
This maybe an ideal purchase for me as a JM newbie. What do you think?
I know pricing was discussed for the box set on Club Cherry Bomb, but how does this anomaly figure Lafayette?
Amazon.com $89.88 Amazon.ca only $69.99 CDN. Think it will be available for purchase in Windsor?

OK-some trivia-video was from the late, late night Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert which aired weekly from 1973 to 1981. I don’t remember this show being broadcast in Canada but you can sure search for some neat segments from all kinds of rockers. Or, if the show was broadcast in Canada during those years, I was married at the time and maybe I wasn’t allowed to stay up late late.
So if this video of Small Paradise was from 1979 or 1980 and you just started following JM(JC) how come you have been a registered Club Cherry Bomb member since 12/31/1969? Matter of fact , I just joined the club recently to get the password for Windsor and it seems I’ve been a member since 12/31/1969 also along with all the other members.

The box set is an excellent choice for a JM newbie. I would also recommend “Words And Music (2005),” an excellent cross section of a greatest hits compilation with 2 unpublished songs (at the time) “Walk Tall” and “Thank You,” as additions.

Barnes and Noble has the best price on the box set, includes free shipping.

    Go for it, lwj !

I’m not sure on the rhyme or reason for the ’69 default. John’s career began in ’76. This box set was suppose to have been released last year in ’09. Hence, 7609.

Lafayette, free shipping regretfully does not apply to ship to Canada. We do not have Barnes and Noble in Canada.
    However, problem is resolved.
I forged ahead and just placed my order for 7609 with Amazon.ca for $69.99 plus sales tax and included free Super Saver shipping.Still don’t understand the $20.00 price differential between Amazon US and Canada.
By the way, do JM’s concerts usually have a merchandise desk such as Lu’s staffed by Lefty’s gal-Susannah?

Unfortunately, JM does not have that personal service at merch tables as provided by the lovely Susannah with an “h.”

You are one up on me. I need to order my box set now.

I saw this unconfirmed Dylan show on Bill Pagel’s site a few minutes ago and instantly thought of you, Lafayette:

September 3, 2010 Yakima, Washington– (Friday)
    Yakima County Stadium
John Mellencamp is also scheduled to perform
A hold has been put on this venue for this date but the show has not yet been confirmed

Looks like there’s a good chance our respective favorite musicians (besides Lu, of course) are teaming up again this fall. 🙂

Lafayette, just doing my homework on some of JM’s early songs before the Windsor concert.
Wolfgang’s Vault was discussed earlier this year. It’s Free and all y’all have to do is register with your e-mail address and set up a password.
I just spent the last hour over dinner listening to this one.
John Cougar live @ Pershing Auditorium, Lincoln, NE August 12, 1982
The first song “Thirty Days in the Hole” is over 6 minutes with the first 3 minutes no vocal.
There is a lot of banter with John talking to the audience.
His intro to “I need a Lover” is great.
One last thing in the listeners comments. Ticket price was only $8.00
Here is the link if you haven’t heard the concert before.I don’t think this is a re-post.

Just an attempt to reprise a former image post of mine… 😉

Unfortunately, it does not translate well to an 80×80 pixel avatar. I’ve replaced it w/ another image which, although not as humorous, still adheres to the same theme while being more clear…

Yes, it does work and it’s especially interesting when considering the historical origination and designation that the cheerleader emblem holds in this forum!

    Enjoy the day,

I saw ( a Mellencamp alert) highlighting that same blog, as well, Stu!
